Hyundai Bayon Launched in India at Rs. 9.99 Lakh – Exploring Features, Engine and Price

As discussed in earlier article, Hyundai Motor India has launched the India-spec Bayon under the message “Intelligence That Moves.” The new SUV starts at Rs. 9.99 lakh ex-showroom and combines a petrol engine with connected features and driver assistance technology.

The Bayon’s appeal will depend on how buyers weigh those features against its price and rivals. Here’s a look at its main specifications and what Hyundai is offering.

Hyundai Bayon price and engine

The Bayon starts at Rs. 9.99 lakh ex-showroom. Hyundai has announced several variants, with a 6-speed manual available across the range and its Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT) offered on selected versions. The starting price is the announced entry point; buyers should check with a Hyundai dealer for the full variant-wise price list and on-road costs.

Every Bayon uses a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. It produces 115 PS and 143.8 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose a manual gearbox or the iVT automatic. The automatic also gets paddle shifters and a Dash Boost mode for quicker response when accelerating.

Hyundai has not listed an official fuel-efficiency figure in its launch announcement, so buyers should wait for confirmed mileage information rather than rely on estimates.

Technology and comfort features

The Bayon’s central feature is a voice assistant that Hyundai says uses generative AI. Drivers can ask it questions or request information while on the move. Hyundai has also fitted two 12.3-inch screens for the driver display and infotainment system, along with Bluelink connected services and over-the-air updates for selected vehicle systems.

Depending on the variant, features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, wireless phone charging and rear air-conditioning vents. The boot offers 505 litres of space, which can be useful for family luggage or a weekend trip.

Safety and rivals

Hyundai says the Bayon comes with more than 35 safety features as standard, including six airbags and electronic stability control. Higher variants add Level 2 driver assistance features, such as Highway Driving Assist and smart cruise control. These systems can support the driver, but they do not replace attention behind the wheel.

At 4,245 mm long, the Bayon sits in the mid-size SUV category. Buyers may also compare it with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Honda Elevate, depending on price, size and equipment. The Bayon’s starting price is attractive, but the final comparison will depend on variant-wise pricing and what each version includes.

What buyers should know

The Bayon brings a wide set of technology and safety features to Hyundai’s SUV range, along with a familiar 1.5-litre petrol engine and manual or automatic options. Before booking, buyers should compare the specific variant they want, check the on-road price in their city and take a test drive.
