Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Launched in India – A Stunning New Luxury EV with 715 km Claimed Range

Mercedes-Benz has launched the all-electric GLC in India today, bringing one of its most important luxury SUVs into the EV era. Called the GLC 400 4MATIC electric, it combines familiar GLC practicality with a fresh electric-only platform, a feature-rich cabin and strong performance.
For buyers considering a premium electric SUV, the GLC Electric promises the comfort expected from Mercedes-Benz while also offering the convenience of a large battery and quick charging. The company will assemble it at its Chakan facility near Pune, which could help it compete more sharply in the luxury EV space.
Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric – power, battery and range
The India-spec GLC Electric arrives in GLC 400 4MATIC form. It uses two electric motors, one on each axle, giving the SUV all-wheel drive. Mercedes-Benz lists output at 360 kW, or around 489 hp, along with 800 Nm of torque.
That is enough for a claimed 0-100 kmph time of 4.3 seconds. In simple terms, this is a family-friendly SUV that can pick up speed like a performance car when needed.
The 94 kWh battery has a claimed WLTP range of up to 715 km. Real-world range will be lower and will depend on speed, traffic, air-conditioning use, road conditions and driving style. Still, the number suggests that regular intercity trips should be possible without frequent charging stops.
The GLC Electric supports DC fast charging at up to 330 kW. Mercedes-Benz says the battery can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in about 22 minutes under suitable charging conditions. It also claims that a 10-minute stop can add around 300 km of range.
Design and cabin features
The electric GLC looks different from the petrol-powered GLC, especially at the front. It gets an illuminated grille, sleek Digital Light headlamps and a cleaner, more modern shape. Flush door handles and aero-focused styling help give it a more futuristic look.
Inside, the headline feature is the wide 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen that stretches across the dashboard. It combines driver information, infotainment and a separate display area for the front passenger. This setup may appeal to buyers who enjoy large screens, though some may still prefer more physical buttons for everyday controls.
Mercedes-Benz has also given the GLC Electric a panoramic Sky Control roof. Its glass can switch between clear and opaque modes at the touch of a button. The SUV offers a 570-litre rear boot and a 128-litre front storage area, taking total luggage space to 698 litres.
Everyday comfort and driving practicality
The GLC Electric is expected to focus heavily on comfort. Its suspension uses selective damping to adjust according to road conditions, which should be useful on uneven city roads and long highway drives. Rear-wheel steering is another important feature, as it can make a large SUV easier to turn and park in tighter places.
For example, a family travelling from Delhi to Jaipur may find the large boot useful for luggage, while the quick-charge ability could make longer highway drives less stressful if a compatible fast charger is available.
Mercedes-Benz also says its MB.CHARGE network provides access to more than 22,000 public charging points across India through one app. Buyers should still check the availability of reliable chargers around their home, office and usual travel routes before choosing any EV.
Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric rivals in India
The closest future rival is likely to be the BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase, which is expected to arrive in India in 2027. The BMW could offer a different take on the premium electric SUV formula, with a strong focus on efficiency, space and driving dynamics.
The GLC Electric may also attract buyers who are otherwise looking at models such as the Audi Q6 e-tron, Volvo EX90 or higher-priced luxury electric SUVs. However, exact comparisons will depend on India launch timelines, variants and prices.
Mercedes-Benz had not published an official India price on its launch-information page at the time of writing. Earlier reports had placed expectations around Rs. 80 lakh to Rs. 90 lakh, ex-showroom, but buyers should wait for the final announced price and variant details.
