Apple has unveiled a redesigned iPad mini with an OLED display, a faster A20 Pro chip and water and dust resistance. The screen grows to 8.5 inches, while the tablet keeps a compact size that’s easy to carry and hold.

The update also brings a higher starting price. That makes the new iPad mini a more capable small tablet, but buyers will want to weigh its portability against the larger screens available on the iPad Air and other tablets.

iPad mini features and specifications

The new Super Retina XDR display uses OLED technology, which can show deeper blacks and stronger contrast than the LCD screen on the previous iPad mini. It supports up to 1,200 nits of peak brightness for HDR content. A nano-texture display option is available on selected storage models to reduce glare.

Apple has fitted the tablet with its A20 Pro chip. The company says it brings improvements to graphics and AI-related tasks compared with the previous generation. In everyday use, that could mean smoother gaming, faster photo editing and more room for demanding apps.

The design is 5.4 mm thin and has an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. Other updates include a 12MP Center Stage front camera placed along the landscape edge, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and a new Acoustic Display audio system. The iPad mini supports Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil USB-C.

Price and availability in India

The new iPad mini starts at Rs. 82,900 in India. Pre-orders begin on October 28, 2026, with availability from November 6. Apple’s US starting price is $699.

That starting price puts the mini in a premium bracket for a tablet of this size. Buyers should check the price of the storage and cellular versions they want, as those configurations cost more.

How does it compare with other tablets?

Compared with the previous iPad mini, the new model’s main changes are its OLED screen, A20 Pro chip, thinner design and IP67 rating. The older model may still suit buyers who want a compact iPad and can find it at a lower price.

The iPad Air offers a larger screen that gives more room for documents, drawing and split-screen work. The mini is easier to carry and use with one hand, but its smaller display is less comfortable for long work sessions. Larger Android tablets, including Samsung’s Galaxy Tab range, are another option for people who prefer a bigger screen.

Is the new iPad mini worth considering?

The new iPad mini stands out for people who want a powerful tablet they can carry almost anywhere. Its OLED display and added durability make it a more substantial upgrade than a routine chip refresh.

The higher price is the main trade-off. If you mostly read, travel, take notes or play games on the move, the compact format may be worth it. If you need a roomy screen for work, an iPad Air or larger tablet may be a better fit.
