As we stated earlier, Delhi EV Policy 2026 is now active, and it changes the way people in the city will buy vehicles over the next few years. The policy came into effect from July 1, 2026, and will run till March 31, 2030.

The focus is clear – Delhi wants more electric vehicles on the road and fewer polluting vehicles in daily use. This matters because the capital continues to face serious air pollution, especially during winter. Transport is not the only reason for pollution, but cleaner vehicles can still make a visible difference.

For buyers, the policy brings subsidies, road tax benefits, registration fee waivers, scrappage incentives and support for charging infrastructure. For businesses, it creates a stronger signal that electric mobility is no longer optional in Delhi’s transport future.

What is Delhi EV Policy 2026

Delhi EV Policy 2026 is the new electric vehicle policy of the Delhi government. It replaces and expands the earlier EV push with a stronger focus on battery electric vehicles.

One important point – the policy focuses on pure EVs. Hybrid vehicles are not included for benefits right now, though Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has indicated that hybrids may be considered in a later phase.

The policy covers electric two-wheelers, electric cars, electric three-wheelers, electric trucks, goods carriers, charging stations and battery-swapping infrastructure.

Electric car benefits

Electric cars priced up to Rs. 30 lakh ex-showroom will get 100 percent road tax and registration fee waiver in Delhi.

This is useful because road tax and registration charges can add a noticeable amount to the final on-road price. For a buyer choosing between a petrol SUV and an electric SUV, this waiver can make the EV more attractive.

However, electric cars do not get a direct purchase subsidy under the new policy. The benefit is mainly through road tax and registration fee exemption.

Luxury EVs above Rs. 30 lakh will not get the same tax waiver benefit under this rule.

Electric two-wheeler subsidy

Electric two-wheelers get direct purchase incentives, but the amount reduces every year.

In the first year, buyers can get up to Rs. 30,000. In the second year, the benefit comes down to Rs. 20,000. In the third year, it becomes Rs. 10,000.

This structure encourages people to switch early. If someone is planning to buy an electric scooter, waiting too long may reduce the benefit.

The policy also links subsidy eligibility to better energy-saving technology. Recent reports say electric two-wheelers without regenerative braking may not qualify for subsidy. Regenerative braking helps recover some energy while slowing down the vehicle.

Electric three-wheeler and goods vehicle benefits

Electric three-wheelers are a major focus because autos and goods carriers run for long hours every day.

Under the policy, electric three-wheeler buyers can get incentives of Rs. 50,000 in the first year, Rs. 40,000 in the second year and Rs. 30,000 in the third year.

For N1-category electric trucks, which are light goods vehicles under 3.5 tonnes, the purchase incentive can go up to Rs. 1 lakh.

This can help delivery businesses, small transporters and last-mile logistics operators switch from petrol, diesel or CNG vehicles to electric options.

Scrappage incentives

The policy also rewards people who replace old polluting vehicles with EVs.

Owners of BS-IV or older four-wheelers may get a scrappage incentive of up to Rs. 1 lakh when they scrap the old vehicle and buy an electric alternative.

Scrappage incentives are important because many older vehicles still run in poor condition. Replacing them with EVs can reduce emissions and push cleaner mobility without only depending on new buyers.

Phase-out rules

Delhi is also moving toward stricter registration rules.

From January 1, 2027, only electric autorickshaws and selected electric goods vehicles are expected to be registered in the city.

From April 1, 2028, new petrol and CNG two-wheeler registrations are planned to be phased out in favour of electric two-wheelers.

This is one of the strongest parts of the policy. It means the government is not only giving incentives. It is also setting deadlines for certain vehicle categories to shift toward electric.

Charging and battery swapping

EV adoption depends heavily on charging access. A good subsidy is not enough if people are worried about where to charge.

Delhi Transco Limited has been named as the nodal agency for EV charging and battery-swapping infrastructure. This should help coordinate charging station expansion, approvals and planning.

More charging points can help apartment residents, delivery riders, taxi operators and office commuters. Battery swapping can be useful for two-wheelers and commercial users who cannot wait long for charging.

How this helps citizens

The first benefit is lower running cost. EVs are usually cheaper to run per kilometre than petrol or diesel vehicles.

The second benefit is lower upfront cost through subsidies or tax waivers, depending on vehicle type.

The third benefit is cleaner air. EVs do not produce tailpipe emissions while running. In a city like Delhi, that matters.

The fourth benefit is quieter roads. Electric vehicles are usually less noisy than petrol and diesel vehicles.

For example, a delivery rider switching to an electric scooter can save on fuel and maintenance. A family buying an EV under Rs. 30 lakh can save on road tax and registration charges. A small business using electric goods vehicles can lower daily operating cost over time.

Challenges ahead

The policy is strong, but execution will decide its success.

Charging infrastructure must grow quickly. Subsidy payments should be smooth. Dealers must explain benefits clearly. Buyers should not struggle with paperwork.

Awareness is another issue. Many people still do not know the real cost difference between petrol and electric vehicles over five years.

There is also the question of resale value and battery life. Clear warranty terms from manufacturers will matter.

Conclusion – Key takeaways

Delhi EV Policy 2026 is now active and will run till March 31, 2030. It gives purchase subsidies for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and light goods vehicles, while electric cars up to Rs. 30 lakh get road tax and registration fee waiver.

The policy also supports scrappage, charging infrastructure and phased electrification of key vehicle categories.

For citizens, the biggest benefits are lower running cost, cleaner air and easier EV adoption. For Delhi, this is a serious step toward cleaner transport. The next test is simple – fast implementation, easy subsidy access and enough charging points across the city.

Kia has unveiled the Syros EV in India, and bookings are now open for a refundable amount of Rs. 25,000. The electric SUV comes with a claimed range of up to 526 km, two battery pack options and a lifetime battery warranty, making it one of the most interesting new EVs in the compact SUV space.

The Syros EV is based on the same K1 platform as the petrol-powered Syros, but Kia has given it EV-specific touches and a strong electric powertrain package. Prices have not been announced yet, but the official launch is expected soon.

For buyers, the big story is not only range. Kia is also trying to reduce EV ownership fear with battery warranty, assured buyback, fast charging and a feature-loaded cabin.

About Kia Syros EV

The Kia Syros EV is the electric version of Kia’s compact SUV. It keeps the boxy and practical design of the regular Syros but replaces the petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack.

It is Kia’s second mass-market electric vehicle in India after the Carens Clavis EV. The brand already sells premium EVs like the EV6 and EV9, but the Syros EV is aimed at a more accessible buyer base.

This means it will compete with electric SUVs used by families, city commuters and buyers upgrading from petrol compact SUVs.

Battery, range and performance

The Syros EV gets two battery options.

The standard-range version uses a 42 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 443 km. It produces around 135 bhp and 255 Nm of torque.

The extended-range version gets a 51.4 kWh battery pack with a claimed ARAI range of 526 km. This version makes around 170 bhp and 255 Nm of torque.

Kia says the Syros EV can do 0-100 km/h in around 8.1 seconds in the higher-powered version. That should feel quick enough for daily driving, highway overtakes and city use.

Charging details

The Syros EV supports DC fast charging up to 100 kW. Kia claims the battery can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in about 39 minutes using a compatible fast charger.

For home charging, the EV supports AC charging up to 11 kW. A full AC charge will take longer, but this setup should work well for overnight charging.

This mix is useful. Fast charging helps on trips, while home charging keeps daily running simple.

Design and cabin

The Syros EV carries Kia’s new electric design language. It gets a Digital Tiger Face, Star Map LED lights, flush door handles, aero-style alloy wheels and EV-specific styling details.

Inside, the cabin feels more premium than many compact SUVs. The main highlight is a 30-inch Trinity Panoramic Display that combines the digital instrument cluster, infotainment screen and climate control interface.

The feature list includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Harman Kardon 8-speaker audio, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, powered driver seat, sliding and reclining rear seats, ventilated front and rear seats, wireless charging and vehicle-to-load support.

It also gets a 16-litre frunk, which is a small storage space under the bonnet.

Safety and warranty

Kia has packed the Syros EV with several safety features. It gets six airbags, ESC, hill-start assist, tyre pressure monitoring, all-wheel disc brakes, electronic parking brake with auto hold, 360-degree camera and blind view monitor.

Higher variants also get Level 2 ADAS with 16 driver assistance features. This includes functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, forward collision avoidance assist and driver attention warning.

The lifetime battery warranty is one of the biggest ownership hooks. It can help reduce a common EV worry – what happens if the battery becomes weak after years of use?

Variants

The Syros EV will be offered in seven variants across two battery packs.

The 42 kWh battery will be available in HTK, HTK+ and HTX trims.

The 51.4 kWh extended-range battery will be offered in HTK+ ER, HTX ER, HTX+ ER and X-Line ER trims.

This gives buyers a decent spread. Someone who mainly drives in the city may choose the standard-range model. Someone who wants fewer charging stops may prefer the extended-range version.

Expected price

Kia has not announced official prices yet. Based on its range, features and rivals, the Syros EV could be priced around Rs. 13 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh ex-showroom.

If Kia prices the base variant close to Rs. 13 lakh, it can attract budget-conscious EV buyers. If the extended-range variants stay competitive, the Syros EV can trouble several existing electric SUVs.

Rivals in detail

The Syros EV will face some serious competition.

The Tata Nexon EV is one of its biggest rivals. It is already well-known, has wide service reach and offers a claimed range of up to 489 km in its higher battery version. The Nexon EV has strong brand trust in the Indian EV space, but the Syros EV’s 526 km claimed range gives Kia a clear talking point.

The Hyundai Creta Electric is another close rival. It offers a claimed range of up to 510 km with its larger 51.4 kWh battery. Since Kia and Hyundai share some technology, buyers may compare these two closely. The Creta Electric has the advantage of a familiar SUV name, while the Syros EV may appeal to buyers wanting a newer and more distinct design.

The MG Windsor EV is also important. It has gained attention for its roomy cabin and battery-as-a-service style pricing. The Syros EV may feel more SUV-like and feature-rich, while the Windsor focuses on space and value.

The MG ZS EV is older but still relevant. It offers a claimed range of 461 km and a more premium size. However, the Syros EV looks fresher and may offer better range on paper.

The upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO EV could also become a rival once launched. Mahindra has strong SUV appeal, so Kia will need smart pricing to stay ahead.

Who should consider Kia Syros EV

The Syros EV makes sense for buyers who want a compact electric SUV with long range, modern features and strong warranty support.

It can suit city users who want low running cost, families who want a practical second car, and buyers who were waiting for an EV with more than 500 km claimed range.

However, buyers should remember that real-world range is usually lower than certified range. Driving style, AC use, traffic, speed and weather all affect EV range.

Conclusion – Key takeaways

The Kia Syros EV has been unveiled in India with bookings open at Rs. 25,000. It offers two battery options, up to 526 km claimed range, 100 kW DC fast charging, lifetime battery warranty and Level 2 ADAS.

Its biggest rivals will be Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG Windsor EV, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.

If Kia prices it well, the Syros EV could become one of the strongest electric SUV options in the Rs. 13 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh range.

Citroen has launched the updated e-C3X electric hatchback in India, bringing a lower entry price through a Battery-as-a-Service model and a more complete feature package. The EV is priced from Rs. 10.25 lakh for outright purchase, while BaaS pricing is reported from Rs. 6.89 lakh with battery usage charged separately is at Rs. 2.26 per km.

That difference matters because BaaS changes how a buyer pays for the car. Instead of paying the full cost of the battery upfront, customers pay a lower vehicle price and then pay for battery use based on running. This can make the e-C3X look more affordable at the time of purchase, especially for city buyers.

The Citroen e-C3X is aimed at people who want a practical electric car for daily use, not a luxury EV. It competes mainly with the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV in India’s affordable electric car space.

What BaaS means for buyers

BaaS stands for Battery-as-a-Service. In simple words, the buyer pays less upfront for the car because the battery cost is handled separately. This model can work well for people who drive limited daily distances and want to reduce the initial purchase burden. For example, someone using the car for office commutes, school runs and local shopping may prefer paying a lower upfront price.

But buyers should calculate the total cost carefully. The per-km battery charge will add to monthly running cost. So, if someone drives a lot every day, outright purchase may sometimes be easier to understand in the long run.

Battery, motor and range

The Citroen e-C3X uses a 29.2 kWh battery pack. The company claims a MIDC-certified range of 325 km, which is higher than the earlier version. Power comes from an electric motor that makes 57 hp and 143 Nm of torque. These numbers are modest, but suitable for city driving. The car is not built for high-speed performance. It is meant for smooth, quiet and affordable daily movement.

The e-C3X can go from 0 to 60 kph in 6.8 seconds and has a top speed of 107 kph. For most urban users, that should be enough for traffic, flyovers and short highway trips.

Charging time

The e-C3X supports both AC and DC charging. Using an AC charger, the battery takes around 10 hours and 30 minutes to charge from 10 percent to 100 percent. With a DC fast charger, it can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in around 57 minutes.

This makes home charging the most practical option for regular use. Fast charging is useful during longer trips or when the battery needs a quicker top-up.

Features and cabin updates

The updated e-C3X gets several useful changes. It now comes with projector LED headlamps, new 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and electrically adjustable power-folding outside mirrors.

Inside, Citroen has added a dual-tone blue-and-beige cabin theme and leatherette upholstery. The dashboard layout remains simple, but the added materials should make the cabin feel fresher.

Feature highlights include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster, wireless phone charger, auto-dimming inside mirror, rear wiper, reverse parking camera and parking sensors.

Citroen also offers a dashcam and six-speaker JBL audio setup as accessories. These are useful additions for buyers who want more convenience and better entertainment without moving to a much more expensive EV.

Safety features

Safety equipment includes four airbags on lower trims and six airbags on the top variant. The car also gets ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, high-speed alert and other basic safety features depending on the variant.

For a city-focused EV, these additions are welcome. Buyers should still compare variant-wise safety equipment before booking, because all features may not be available on every trim.

Variants and competitors

The Citroen e-C3X is offered in Live, Live (O) and Shine variants. The Shine trim gets more premium features, while the lower variants are aimed at buyers who want a lower entry price.

Its closest competitors are Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV. The Tiago EV has a stronger brand pull and wider service familiarity. The MG Comet is smaller and more city-focused, with a unique tall-boy design.

The e-C3X stands out with its larger hatchback-like body, improved range, comfortable cabin focus and BaaS option.

Conclusion with key takeaways

The Citroen e-C3X is a practical update for buyers looking at an affordable electric car in India. Its 325 km claimed range, fast-charging support, improved cabin features and BaaS pricing make it more competitive than before.

The main thing buyers should check is the final BaaS cost in their city and how much they drive every month. The lower upfront price is attractive, but the per-km battery charge should be included in the ownership calculation.

Key takeaways

Citroen e-C3X is priced from Rs. 10.25 lakh for outright purchase.

BaaS pricing is reported at Rs. 6.89 lakh.

The EV gets a 29.2 kWh battery and 325 km claimed MIDC range.

DC fast charging takes around 57 minutes from 10 percent to 80 percent.

Key rivals include Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV.

Maruti Suzuki plans four new EVs by 2031 is more than a corporate update. It signals how India’s largest carmaker is preparing for the next phase of electric mobility. If a brand with the scale of Maruti commits to multiple EV launches, it changes how buyers, rivals, and suppliers plan the next five years.

The statement was made by senior company leadership during an EV handover event, where Maruti delivered a large batch of its electric SUV, the e‑Vitara, in a single day. The company also linked this plan to its mid‑term EV strategy and its goal of competing across multiple segments. That combination—roadmap plus real deliveries—makes the announcement meaningful for the market.

This article explains what this plan actually means, who it affects, and what buyers should watch between now and 2031.

The core update in simple words

Maruti Suzuki says it will introduce four new electric vehicles by 2031. This is not one model and one price band. The company indicated it wants to “play across segments,” which suggests a wider product range rather than a single flagship EV.

It also highlighted its e‑Vitara deliveries as a milestone in its EV journey. So this is not just a future promise; the company is already moving EVs into customer hands and preparing its next lineup.

Why this announcement matters?

There are three big reasons:

Market impact
Maruti’s scale is enormous in India’s passenger car market. When it makes a long‑term commitment, the entire market adjusts. Suppliers, dealers, and even charging‑infra players take note.

Customer confidence
Many buyers still hesitate about EVs because of long‑term support and service fears. A clear multi‑year roadmap from the country’s biggest carmaker improves trust and makes EV adoption feel safer.

Competitive pressure
The moment Maruti expands EV offerings, rivals must react. This keeps prices, features, and service quality under pressure, which benefits customers.

What “four EVs by 2031” could look like

The company has not publicly revealed the exact models or timelines. But the phrase “across segments” is important. It likely means:

An entry EV for first‑time buyers

A family‑focused mid‑range EV

A premium EV SUV or crossover

A possible utility or high‑range EV offering

This is an educated inference based on how carmakers usually build portfolios, not an official product list. But the direction is clearly multi‑segment.

How the e‑Vitara fits into the plan

The e‑Vitara is currently Maruti’s key EV, and the company’s delivery milestone shows it is already active in the EV space. That matters because it gives the brand actual usage data, servicing experience, and consumer feedback to shape the next four models.

So this isn’t a “start from zero” plan. It’s a continuation—one model already in the field, and four more planned as the market grows.

Practical examples: what this means for buyers

Example 1: Budget buyer in 2027–2028

If Maruti launches a more affordable EV before 2030, many first‑time buyers may prefer that over premium EVs or hybrids. A lower starting price combined with Maruti’s service network can make EV adoption easier.

Example 2: Family buyer with range anxiety

A mid‑segment EV with strong range, service coverage, and financing support could be attractive for families who want an EV but fear charging hassles. Maruti’s network scale can reduce that fear.

Example 3: SUV buyer in 2029–2031

If the planned EV lineup includes larger or premium models, SUV‑focused buyers may see it as a direct alternative to current EV competitors.

Competitor check: where Maruti will face pressure

By the time four new EVs arrive, India’s EV market will already be busy. Maruti will be competing against:

A quick view of the key pressure points Maruti must handle as EV competition grows.

Early‑Mover Advantage
Rivals already have multiple EVs on the road and stronger usage data.

Price vs Range Race
Competitors are pushing longer range at aggressive prices.

Charging Ecosystem
Some brands are bundling chargers and partner networks faster.

Software & Updates
EV buyers now expect strong connected features and long‑term updates.

Premium Segment Entry
Luxury EV brands may set higher expectations for quality and tech.

Brand Perception
Maruti must shift from value‑first to EV‑innovation perception.

Established EV players with early market lead

Brands with deeper premium EV experience

Rivals offering aggressive pricing and long range

Global players expanding India portfolios

Maruti’s strengths are scale, service network, and brand trust.
Its main challenge is catching up on EV experience and differentiating on tech.

If Maruti executes well, the four‑EV plan can help it stay competitive as the market matures.

The bigger industry context

India’s EV market is at a transition stage:

Government policy is encouraging adoption

Charging infrastructure is improving but still uneven

Customers want lower upfront cost and longer range

Manufacturers are now shifting from pilots to multi‑model plans

In that context, Maruti’s commitment tells the market that EVs are no longer experimental-they’re part of the long‑term mainstream plan.

What to watch next

If you are tracking this as a buyer or industry observer, keep these points in mind:

Official model names and segment confirmation

Pricing strategy: entry vs premium focus

Charging and service ecosystem expansion

Timeline details for the first of the four models

Whether Maruti adopts battery subscription or other pricing innovations

These signals will define whether the plan is aggressive or conservative.

Conclusion

Maruti Suzuki’s new EVs is a big signal for India’s EV roadmap. It means the country’s largest carmaker is preparing a multi‑segment EV future, not a single‑model experiment. This increases competition, improves buyer confidence, and pushes the market forward. For buyers, the message is simple: EV choices will expand significantly by the end of this decade, and Maruti intends to be a major part of that future. If you are considering a long‑term shift to EVs, this roadmap is one of the clearest signs that the market is moving from early phase to mainstream scale.
