MG Hector Tomahawk has officially entered the Indian market, and it is not just another variant with a few cosmetic changes. JSW MG Motor India has launched the new Tomahawk range with EV and plug-in hybrid options, giving buyers a choice between full electric driving and a petrol-electric setup.
The introductory price starts at Rs. 13.99 lakh under MG’s Battery-as-a-Service plan. Without the battery rental model, the EV version starts at Rs. 19.49 lakh, while the PHEV version starts at Rs. 25.69 lakh. The lower entry price is clearly designed to make a large electrified SUV feel more reachable for Indian families.
What makes MG Hector Tomahawk different
The biggest difference is the powertrain choice. The Hector Tomahawk range is available as a pure EV and as a PHEV.
The EV uses a 69.2kWh LFP battery and offers a claimed range of 517km. For daily users, that means office runs, school drops, weekend drives, and short highway trips can be managed without charging anxiety, at least on paper.
The PHEV, or plug-in hybrid, is more flexible. It combines a petrol engine with a battery and electric motor. MG claims an electric-only range of 115km and a combined range of more than 1,100km. This can work well for buyers who want electric driving in the city but still prefer petrol backup for long trips.
BaaS pricing explained simply
The Rs. 13.99 lakh starting price comes with BaaS, which means Battery-as-a-Service. In this model, the buyer pays a lower upfront price for the vehicle but pays a separate battery rental charge based on usage.
For the Hector Tomahawk EV, the battery rental is listed at Rs. 3.99 per km. For someone who drives 1,000km a month, this adds around Rs. 3,990 as battery usage cost, apart from charging and other ownership expenses.
This model may suit people who want a lower purchase price. However, high-mileage users should calculate the long-term cost before choosing it.
Features that stand out
MG has packed the Tomahawk with several comfort and tech features. The cabin gets a large 15.6-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car features, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, 360-degree camera, and multiple in-car modes.
The SUV is available in five-seat and seven-seat layouts for the EV version, while the PHEV is offered as a seven-seater. This makes it more practical for bigger families that want an electrified SUV without moving to a luxury price bracket.
The design also gets modern touches such as LED lighting, dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails, black cladding, and an illuminated MG logo.
Competitors in India
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV will compete with electric SUVs such as the Tata Harrier EV, Mahindra XUV.e8 when launched, BYD Atto 3, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Tata Curvv EV, depending on variant and price.
The PHEV version has fewer direct rivals because plug-in hybrids are still rare in India’s mass-market SUV space. Its closest competition may come from strong hybrid SUVs and premium EVs that offer long range and lower running cost.
