Mahindra XUV 7XO Base Model Price, Comfort And Safety Explained For Family SUV Buyers

The Mahindra XUV 7XO has arrived as the updated version of the XUV700, and its base model is getting attention for one clear reason – it does not feel like a bare-bones entry variant. The base variant is called AX, and its price starts from Rs. 13.66 lakh, ex-showroom, for the petrol manual version. The diesel base version is priced from Rs. 14.96 lakh, ex-showroom. These are introductory prices, so buyers should check the latest showroom quote before booking.

For families looking at a 5-seater or 7-seater SUV with strong road presence, good safety equipment and useful comfort features, the XUV 7XO base model still looks like a serious value pick.

Mahindra XUV 7XO base model price

The Mahindra XUV 7XO AX is the entry-level variant. It is priced between Rs. 13.66 lakh and Rs. 14.96 lakh, ex-showroom, depending on engine choice. The petrol manual starts at Rs. 13.66 lakh, while the diesel manual starts at Rs. 14.96 lakh. Mahindra has also said automatic transmission costs extra, and all-wheel drive is available on select diesel variants at an additional cost.

For a large SUV, this pricing puts the XUV 7XO in an interesting place. It is more expensive than many compact SUVs, but it offers more size, stronger engines and a more premium cabin feel.

Engine and performance

The XUV 7XO continues with the familiar engine options from the XUV700 family same as discussed earlier. The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol unit producing around 197 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. The diesel engine is a 2.2-litre mHawk unit producing around 182 bhp and up to 450 Nm of torque, depending on transmission.

Both engines are offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while higher variants also get a 6-speed torque-converter automatic.

For daily use, the petrol version will suit buyers who mostly drive in the city and want smoother performance. The diesel version makes more sense for highway users, larger families and people who drive long distances often.

Comfort in the base model

The biggest surprise is that the base AX variant gets a triple-screen setup as standard. This includes a digital driver display, a central touchscreen and a front passenger screen. That gives the cabin a modern feel right from the entry variant. The base model also gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, AdrenoX connected-car features, built-in Alexa and ChatGPT support, cruise control and a 6-speaker sound system.

Practical comfort features include manual AC with vents for the second and third rows, front and rear armrests, steering-mounted controls, push-button start, charging ports and a 6-way manually adjustable driver seat.

So, does the base model lead in comfort? For its price and size, yes, it offers more than expected. But some premium features like panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, Harman Kardon audio, dual-zone climate control and leatherette upholstery are reserved for higher variants.

Safety in the base model

Safety is where the XUV 7XO base model feels strong. The AX variant gets six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-hold assist, hill-descent control, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child-seat mounts. These are important because many family buyers now care about safety even in lower variants.

The higher variants add more advanced features such as Level 2 ADAS, surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring and tyre-pressure monitoring system. So the base model does not get everything, but it starts with a solid safety package.

For buyers who want advanced driver-assistance features, the higher AX7T and AX7L trims will make more sense. For buyers who want basic safety strength without stretching the budget too far, the AX variant is still convincing.

Does it still lead in comfort and safety

The answer is mostly yes, but with a practical note.

The Mahindra XUV 7XO base model leads in comfort when compared with many entry-level variants because it offers a large cabin, triple screens, connected features and usable family-friendly equipment.

It also leads strongly on basic safety because six airbags, ESC and ISOFIX are available from the base variant. That is important for family buyers who do not want to pay only for design and size.

However, the most advanced comfort and safety features are not in the base model. If you want ADAS, 540-degree camera, ventilated seats, premium audio and luxury cabin touches, you will need to move up the variant ladder.

Competitors

The XUV 7XO competes with SUVs and MPVs such as Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, Toyota Innova Crysta, Maruti Invicto and Kia Carens or Clavis, depending on buyer budget.

Against these rivals, Mahindra’s biggest strengths are engine power, road presence, feature packaging and safety equipment. Its challenge will be pricing of higher variants, waiting period and after-sales experience in some locations.

Conclusion with key takeaways

The Mahindra XUV 7XO base model is not just an entry ticket into the lineup. It is a fairly well-equipped variant that gives buyers a strong engine, modern cabin tech and serious safety features from the start.

At Rs. 13.66 lakh, ex-showroom, the petrol AX variant looks attractive for families who want a big SUV without jumping straight to premium trims. The diesel base version at Rs. 14.96 lakh will appeal to long-distance users.
