Kia Syros EV Unveiled with 526 km Range, Bookings Open at Rs. 25,000

Kia has unveiled the Syros EV in India, and bookings are now open for a refundable amount of Rs. 25,000. The electric SUV comes with a claimed range of up to 526 km, two battery pack options and a lifetime battery warranty, making it one of the most interesting new EVs in the compact SUV space.

The Syros EV is based on the same K1 platform as the petrol-powered Syros, but Kia has given it EV-specific touches and a strong electric powertrain package. Prices have not been announced yet, but the official launch is expected soon.

For buyers, the big story is not only range. Kia is also trying to reduce EV ownership fear with battery warranty, assured buyback, fast charging and a feature-loaded cabin.

About Kia Syros EV

The Kia Syros EV is the electric version of Kia’s compact SUV. It keeps the boxy and practical design of the regular Syros but replaces the petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack.

It is Kia’s second mass-market electric vehicle in India after the Carens Clavis EV. The brand already sells premium EVs like the EV6 and EV9, but the Syros EV is aimed at a more accessible buyer base.

This means it will compete with electric SUVs used by families, city commuters and buyers upgrading from petrol compact SUVs.

Battery, range and performance

The Syros EV gets two battery options.

  • The standard-range version uses a 42 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 443 km. It produces around 135 bhp and 255 Nm of torque.
  • The extended-range version gets a 51.4 kWh battery pack with a claimed ARAI range of 526 km. This version makes around 170 bhp and 255 Nm of torque.

Kia says the Syros EV can do 0-100 km/h in around 8.1 seconds in the higher-powered version. That should feel quick enough for daily driving, highway overtakes and city use.

Charging details

The Syros EV supports DC fast charging up to 100 kW. Kia claims the battery can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in about 39 minutes using a compatible fast charger.

For home charging, the EV supports AC charging up to 11 kW. A full AC charge will take longer, but this setup should work well for overnight charging.

This mix is useful. Fast charging helps on trips, while home charging keeps daily running simple.

Design and cabin

The Syros EV carries Kia’s new electric design language. It gets a Digital Tiger Face, Star Map LED lights, flush door handles, aero-style alloy wheels and EV-specific styling details.

Inside, the cabin feels more premium than many compact SUVs. The main highlight is a 30-inch Trinity Panoramic Display that combines the digital instrument cluster, infotainment screen and climate control interface.

The feature list includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Harman Kardon 8-speaker audio, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, powered driver seat, sliding and reclining rear seats, ventilated front and rear seats, wireless charging and vehicle-to-load support.

It also gets a 16-litre frunk, which is a small storage space under the bonnet.

Safety and warranty

Kia has packed the Syros EV with several safety features. It gets six airbags, ESC, hill-start assist, tyre pressure monitoring, all-wheel disc brakes, electronic parking brake with auto hold, 360-degree camera and blind view monitor.

Higher variants also get Level 2 ADAS with 16 driver assistance features. This includes functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, forward collision avoidance assist and driver attention warning.

The lifetime battery warranty is one of the biggest ownership hooks. It can help reduce a common EV worry – what happens if the battery becomes weak after years of use?

Variants

The Syros EV will be offered in seven variants across two battery packs.

  • The 42 kWh battery will be available in HTK, HTK+ and HTX trims.
  • The 51.4 kWh extended-range battery will be offered in HTK+ ER, HTX ER, HTX+ ER and X-Line ER trims.

This gives buyers a decent spread. Someone who mainly drives in the city may choose the standard-range model. Someone who wants fewer charging stops may prefer the extended-range version.

Expected price

Kia has not announced official prices yet. Based on its range, features and rivals, the Syros EV could be priced around Rs. 13 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh ex-showroom.

If Kia prices the base variant close to Rs. 13 lakh, it can attract budget-conscious EV buyers. If the extended-range variants stay competitive, the Syros EV can trouble several existing electric SUVs.

Rivals in detail

The Syros EV will face some serious competition.

  1. The Tata Nexon EV is one of its biggest rivals. It is already well-known, has wide service reach and offers a claimed range of up to 489 km in its higher battery version. The Nexon EV has strong brand trust in the Indian EV space, but the Syros EV’s 526 km claimed range gives Kia a clear talking point.
  2. The Hyundai Creta Electric is another close rival. It offers a claimed range of up to 510 km with its larger 51.4 kWh battery. Since Kia and Hyundai share some technology, buyers may compare these two closely. The Creta Electric has the advantage of a familiar SUV name, while the Syros EV may appeal to buyers wanting a newer and more distinct design.
  3. The MG Windsor EV is also important. It has gained attention for its roomy cabin and battery-as-a-service style pricing. The Syros EV may feel more SUV-like and feature-rich, while the Windsor focuses on space and value.
  4. The MG ZS EV is older but still relevant. It offers a claimed range of 461 km and a more premium size. However, the Syros EV looks fresher and may offer better range on paper.
  5. The upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO EV could also become a rival once launched. Mahindra has strong SUV appeal, so Kia will need smart pricing to stay ahead.

Who should consider Kia Syros EV

The Syros EV makes sense for buyers who want a compact electric SUV with long range, modern features and strong warranty support.

It can suit city users who want low running cost, families who want a practical second car, and buyers who were waiting for an EV with more than 500 km claimed range.

However, buyers should remember that real-world range is usually lower than certified range. Driving style, AC use, traffic, speed and weather all affect EV range.

Conclusion – Key takeaways

The Kia Syros EV has been unveiled in India with bookings open at Rs. 25,000. It offers two battery options, up to 526 km claimed range, 100 kW DC fast charging, lifetime battery warranty and Level 2 ADAS.

Its biggest rivals will be Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG Windsor EV, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.

If Kia prices it well, the Syros EV could become one of the strongest electric SUV options in the Rs. 13 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh range.
