AI is becoming more useful when it does something practical. Two recent examples come from very different products. Sonos now lets compatible AI assistants control its speaker system through MCP, while Plaud Note Pro uses AI to turn recordings into notes, summaries and follow-up tasks.

One is about making home audio easier to manage. The other is about helping people remember what was said in meetings, classes and interviews.

What Sonos MCP support means

Sonos has introduced Sonos 27mcp in Early Access. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is an open technical standard that lets an AI assistant securely connect with another service or device after the user gives permission.

Put simply, MCP works like a common language between an AI assistant and a smart product.

For example, instead of opening the Sonos app and selecting speakers room by room, a user could ask an AI assistant, “Play relaxing music in the living room and lower the bedroom volume.” The connected assistant can then pass that request to Sonos.

Sonos says its MCP connection can handle music playback, pause, volume changes, speaker grouping, playlists, shuffle, repeat and selected home-theatre controls. It supports AI assistants including ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, although availability is currently limited to US English.

An LLM, or large language model, is the AI system that understands everyday written or spoken requests. ChatGPT is one example. MCP does not make the speaker itself “think”; it allows the AI assistant to carry out approved actions on the user’s Sonos system.

Plaud Note Pro explains useful AI hardware

Plaud Note Pro takes a different approach. It is a slim, card-sized AI voice recorder built for in-person conversations, phone calls and meetings.

The device records audio, transfers it to the Plaud app and can create a transcript. A transcript is simply a written version of spoken words. It can then produce a summary, which is a shorter version covering the main points, decisions and action items.

Imagine a freelance journalist recording an interview. Instead of replaying a 45-minute conversation several times, they can search the transcript for a name, quote or topic. A manager could also use it after a meeting to check assigned tasks.

Plaud Note Pro has 64GB storage, a 500mAh battery and a five-microphone setup. Its four MEMS microphones and one VPU are designed to improve voice pickup. MEMS microphones are tiny digital microphones commonly used in modern devices, while a VPU is a voice pickup unit that helps focus on speech.

The recorder also uses AI beamforming. This is a method that helps the device focus on voices from a chosen direction and reduce unwanted background noise. Plaud says the Note Pro can record voices from up to five metres away in its enhanced mode.

What buyers should keep in mind

Sonos MCP is useful for people who already own several Sonos speakers and regularly use an AI assistant. It is more about convenience than a reason to buy speakers for the first time.

Plaud Note Pro faces competition from smartphone voice recorders and AI note-taking apps such as Otter. Its advantage is simple: it is a dedicated device, so users do not need to keep their phone unlocked or worry about calls interrupting a recording.

However, recording conversations comes with responsibility. Always tell people and get consent where required, especially during work meetings, interviews or private discussions.

Key takeaways

Sonos 27mcp shows how AI assistants can become a practical remote control for connected devices. Plaud Note Pro shows that AI hardware can solve a straightforward problem: recording, organizing and finding important spoken information. Both products are useful when they save time without making everyday tasks more complicated.
