India’s startup funding market is showing interest in two very different businesses. Seeds Fincap, a non-banking finance company, has raised more than Rs. 100 crore in Series B funding. At the same time, semiconductor startup Agrani Labs is reportedly in talks to raise Rs. 800-850 crore.

One company wants to improve access to loans for small businesses. The other is building the hardware and software needed for artificial intelligence computing. Together, the two stories show how funding is moving toward both financial inclusion and deep technology.

Seeds Fincap funding and business model

Seeds Fincap has raised over Rs. 100 crore in a Series B round led by the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation. Existing investors Z47 and Lok Capital also participated, along with Norinchukin Capital and Alteria Capital reported Entrepreneur India.

The Gurugram-based company provides loans to nano entrepreneurs and underserved micro, small and medium businesses. Its borrowers may include small retailers, local service providers and other businesses that often find it difficult to obtain traditional bank credit.

Seeds Fincap was established in 2019 by Subhash Chandra Acharya, Avishek Sarkar and Sumeet Dhall.

Its lending process combines technology with field teams. Instead of depending only on a traditional credit score, the company studies a borrower’s cash flow and business activity to assess repayment ability.

Purpose of the Seeds Fincap funding

The new capital is expected to help Seeds Fincap enter more markets and strengthen its branch network, technology systems, workforce and risk-management processes.

The company is also targeting assets under management of Rs. 1,000 crore by March 2027. Assets under management means the total value of loans and other financial assets handled by the company.

For a small shop owner, this expansion could make a practical difference. A business may use a loan to purchase inventory, repair equipment or manage seasonal cash-flow pressure. However, responsible lending will remain important because rapid loan growth can also increase repayment risks.

Seeds Fincap competes with lenders such as Kinara Capital, Aye Finance, U GRO Capital and other fintech-focused NBFCs. Its key challenge will be expanding while keeping loan quality under control.

Agrani Labs funding plans

Agrani Labs is reportedly discussing a funding round of Rs. 800-850 crore with Samsung, 360 ONE Asset Management and existing investor Peak XV Partners. The round has not yet been completed, so the reported figure should be treated as a proposed fundraise rather than confirmed funding as per the The Economic Times.

The Bengaluru-based company develops AI computing hardware and software for enterprise and data-centre use. Its product vision includes custom graphics processing units, or GPUs, along with the software tools required to run AI workloads.

Agrani Labs was founded by Dheemanth Nagaraj, Ashok Jagannathan, Srikanth Nimmagadda and Rajesh Vivekanandham.

The founders have backgrounds in semiconductor and processor development.

Purpose of the proposed Agrani Labs funding

Developing an AI chip requires large spending on engineering, chip design, testing, software development and manufacturing partnerships. The proposed funding could help Agrani Labs build products for data centres and companies that want alternatives to imported AI hardware.

The company is also reportedly considering an application for around Rs. 120-130 crore under the government-backed Research, Development and Innovation scheme. This could support research and product development if approved.

Agrani Labs will face competition from international chip companies as well as Indian deep-tech ventures such as Krutrim, Morphing Machines and other semiconductor startups. Its success will depend on performance, software compatibility, manufacturing access and the ability to win enterprise customers.

Conclusion with key takeaways

The Seeds Fincap and Agrani Labs stories represent two separate but important funding themes.
