AI and space technology are attracting investor attention for very different reasons. Firstwork has raised $15 million to help large employers manage frontline workers more smoothly. In India, SpectraGaze Systems has secured Rs. 3.7 crore to build advanced imaging sensors and payloads for satellites, defence and scientific use.

Both startups are solving difficult operational problems. Firstwork is focused on the journey from job application to an employee’s first shift. SpectraGaze is developing hardware that can capture detailed information from space.

Firstwork raises $15 million Series A from Earlybird Venture Capital

Firstwork was founded in 2024 by Vardhan Kapoor and Shubham Choudhary. The company has raised $15 million in a Series A round led by Earlybird Venture Capital.

The round also included Legion VC, Deel Ventures, Gradient and Y Combinator. It takes Firstwork’s total funding to $20 million since launch.

Firstwork builds AI agents for companies that hire large frontline teams. These workers are common in healthcare, warehousing, logistics, retail, delivery and energy businesses. Hiring them often requires document collection, background checks, training, payroll setup and compliance verification.

A simple example is a logistics company hiring hundreds of drivers. Instead of HR staff repeatedly calling applicants for documents and status updates, Firstwork’s AI tools can coordinate the process across existing HR, payroll and screening systems.

As per the company, Firstwork plans to use the Series A funding to expand its AI, engineering and sales teams, grow in the US and Europe, and add more functions such as credential renewals, recurring training and worker support.

Its competitors include HR software providers, payroll platforms, recruitment tools and workforce-management companies. Firstwork’s key pitch is that it handles operational work rather than merely recording employee information.

SpectraGaze gets Rs. 3.7 crore for satellite imaging technology

Ahmedabad-based SpectraGaze Systems has raised Rs. 3.7 crore in a seed round led by GVFL, with participation from angel investors. The round is reported to be the startup’s first external fundraise.

SpectraGaze was founded in 2023 by former ISRO scientist Arup Banerjee. The company develops indigenous optical imaging sensors and electro-optical payloads for space, defence and scientific applications.

An electro-optical payload is equipment carried by a satellite that uses light-based sensors to observe the Earth or other targets. Depending on the sensor type, it can help capture information that standard photographs may not reveal.

For example, hyperspectral imaging can study many bands of light. This can support crop monitoring, disaster assessment, environmental observation, mineral exploration and security-related analysis.

SpectraGaze counts ISRO, the Physical Research Laboratory and Kaynes Technology among its customers. It has reportedly supplied an infrared detector and test system to ISRO and secured work related to image-sensor development for the HRSAT programme as reported in YS.

The Rs. 3.7 crore seed funding will support product development, engineering-team expansion, testing infrastructure and existing customer projects. The startup is also working on a hyperspectral imaging camera for a 3U satellite – a small satellite format commonly used for compact space missions.

SpectraGaze will compete with domestic and international satellite-imaging, remote-sensing and sensor-hardware companies. Its opportunity lies in building more critical imaging technology within India instead of depending entirely on overseas suppliers.
