Chennai’s Zuppa Geo Navigation Seeks $10 Million to Scale Indigenous Drone Technology

Chennai-based Zuppa Geo Navigation Technologies is planning to raise up to $10 million in equity funding as it prepares for a bigger domestic and international push. The drone-tech company is already known for building indigenous drones, autopilot systems and navigation technology for defence and commercial use.

As per reports citing founder and managing director Sai Pattabiram, Zuppa is in talks with strategic partners and foreign private investors. The round is expected to close by the next quarter if discussions move as planned.

What Zuppa Geo Navigation does

Zuppa Geo Navigation was founded by Sai Pattabiram and Venkatesh Sai in 2012 in Chennai.

Company has spent years building drone and navigation technology in India.

Zuppa makes drones, autopilots, flight-control systems, navigation platforms and software for unmanned systems. Its products are used in defence and commercial areas.

In simple words, Zuppa does not only assemble drones. It works on the brain of the drone too – the systems that help it fly, navigate, follow commands and operate safely.

Funding purpose

The proposed $10 million funding will mainly be used to expand Zuppa’s technology development centre and engineering team.

This is important because drone technology is changing very quickly. Defence users now need drones that can survive tough field conditions, support real-time decision-making and work in areas where electronic interference may be present.

Zuppa also wants to grow in India and overseas markets, including MENA and Europe. MENA refers to the Middle East and North Africa region. These markets are seeing rising demand for drones in defence, surveillance, mapping and industrial use.

Why this startup matters for India

India has been trying to reduce dependence on foreign drone technology, especially from China. In defence and sensitive infrastructure, this matters a lot because drones can carry data, maps, video feeds and navigation information.

A homegrown company like Zuppa can support India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat push by building critical drone systems locally. For example, if the Indian Army needs micro-drones for field use, local technology gives better control over security, software, upgrades and supply.

As per NewsBytes, Zuppa has delivered more than 500 drones this year and expects revenue to rise from around Rs. 8 crore in FY26 to nearly Rs. 80 crore. These are reported projections, so the actual numbers will depend on order execution.

Previous funding and partnerships

Zuppa has earlier raised capital from investors such as MapmyIndia, IndiaNivesh, First Bridge and others, according to ToI. In 2025, Garuda Aerospace also made a strategic investment in the company.

Reports also mention that Zuppa raised bridge funding in 2025 to strengthen its defence and dual-use drone technology presence. Dual-use means technology that can be used for both civilian and defence purposes.

Competitors and market view

Zuppa operates in a competitive drone ecosystem. In India, it may compete or overlap with companies such as ideaForge, Garuda Aerospace, NewSpace Research, Asteria Aerospace and other drone-tech firms.

Globally, drone technology is also advancing fast through companies such as Skydio, Auterion and several defence-focused unmanned systems players. Zuppa’s edge will depend on how well it can combine indigenous control systems, reliable manufacturing and quick product upgrades.
