AdvaRisk May Raise $20-25 Million From Fundamentum to Help Banks Fight Loan Fraud

Mumbai-based fintech startup AdvaRisk is reportedly in talks to raise $20-25 million, or around Rs. 190 crore to Rs. 237.5 crore, from investors including Fundamentum. The deal is still at an early stage.

The possible investment comes at a time when banks and financial institutions are becoming more careful about fraud, stressed loans and property-linked lending risks. For AdvaRisk, fresh capital could help it expand faster in a market where trust, data and speed matter a lot.

What AdvaRisk does

AdvaRisk helps banks and financial institutions detect fraud, check borrower risk and recover money from loan defaults.

In simple words, it gives lenders better information before and after they give loans. Its platform studies real estate records, borrower-linked assets, legal details and other risk signals. This helps banks understand whether a borrower has hidden assets, risky patterns or warning signs that need attention.

For example, if a large borrower defaults on a loan, a bank may need to trace properties or assets connected to that borrower. Doing this manually can take time. AdvaRisk uses technology and data to make that process faster and more organized.

Founder and founding year

AdvaRisk was founded in 2016 by Vishal Sharma and Rahul Metkar.

Vishal Sharma is working as co-founder and CEO, while Rahul Metkar is co-founder and director. The company is headquartered in Mumbai and works mainly with banks, NBFCs and financial institutions.

Aim of the startup

AdvaRisk’s main aim is to make mortgage-based lending faster, simpler and more trustworthy.

Mortgage lending depends heavily on property information. But in India, property records can be complex, fragmented and difficult to verify. This creates problems for both lenders and genuine borrowers.

AdvaRisk wants to solve this by building a large repository of real estate title data and using AI-led tools to interpret property ownership records. If this works well, banks can make better lending decisions and borrowers with clean records may get credit more easily.

Why AdvaRisk is looking for funding

The reported $20-25 million fundraise may help AdvaRisk scale its technology, data systems and customer reach.

The company already works with several major financial institutions, including ICICI Bank, SBI, IDBI Bank, Punjab National Bank and AU Small Finance Bank, according to reports. Its official website says it has worked with more than 50 financial institutions and enabled property due diligence at large scale.

Fresh funding could help the startup improve AI models, expand its real estate database, hire talent, build stronger products and serve more lenders across India.

Why Fundamentum may be interested

Fundamentum is known for backing growth-stage technology companies. It is associated with Nandan Nilekani, Sanjeev Aggarwal and Ashish Kumar.

AdvaRisk fits a serious enterprise problem. Banks need better tools to detect fraud, monitor loans and recover stressed assets. As AI becomes more useful in financial risk management, a company like AdvaRisk could become more valuable if it proves accuracy, compliance and scale.

Competitors and market view

AdvaRisk operates in fintech, regtech, lending-tech and risk intelligence. It competes with companies offering fraud detection, credit monitoring, collateral management, legal due diligence and risk analytics.

Its competitors may include fintech SaaS firms, credit bureaus, legal-tech platforms, property-tech data companies and internal bank risk systems. Its edge lies in combining real estate data, fraud investigation and lending workflow support.

Conclusion – Key takeaways

AdvaRisk’s reported funding talks with Fundamentum show rising demand for smarter risk tools in Indian banking.

The startup helps lenders detect fraud, assess borrower risk and recover money from default cases. If the funding closes, AdvaRisk may use it to scale its AI-led platform, expand property data coverage and deepen work with banks and NBFCs.

For India’s financial system, such tools can be useful because better risk checks can reduce fraud, improve loan recovery and make credit decisions more reliable.
