Bengaluru-based deep-tech startup Quanfluence has raised $10 million, approximately Rs. 96.87 crore, in a funding round led by Chiratae Ventures. Existing investor Pi Ventures also participated, while Rainmatter by Zerodha joined the round.

The company plans to use the capital to build a full-stack photonic quantum computer. In simple terms, Quanfluence wants to develop the chips, electronics and software needed to create a complete quantum computing system in India as per them.

What does Quanfluence do

Traditional computers use bits that process information as zeros and ones. Quantum computers use quantum bits, or qubits, which can handle information in a very different way.

Quanfluence is taking a photonic approach. Instead of relying only on electrical signals, its systems use particles of light called photons to carry and process quantum information.

This method could be useful for difficult problems involving a huge number of possible combinations. Examples include delivery route planning, financial risk analysis, factory scheduling, supply-chain planning and drug research.

The company is also developing quantum-inspired systems, such as an optical Ising machine. These machines are designed to solve certain optimization problems faster than conventional methods in specific situations.

Who founded the startup

Quanfluence was founded in 2021 by Sujoy Chakravarty, Ravi Mehta, Biman Chattopadhyay, Aditi Vaidya, Professor Anil Prabhakar of IIT Madras and Professor Sandeep Goyal of IISER Mohali.

The startup is incubated at the IIT Madras Incubation Cell. Some members of the founding team previously built Silicon and Beyond, a semiconductor intellectual property company that was acquired by Synopsys.

This background gives Quanfluence experience in both chip design and advanced research. Combining these areas is important because quantum computers require highly specialized hardware as well as complex software.

How will the funding be used

As per the report, the new funding will support Quanfluence’s full-stack architecture. This includes indigenously designed photonic integrated circuits, electronic control chips, optical systems and software algorithms.

The company has already designed photonic and electronic integrated circuits and worked on connecting chips with optical fibres. It has also demonstrated the generation of quantum light states.

Quanfluence plans to develop early processors by 2027 and work towards larger, more scalable machines by 2029. The funding will help it move from individual laboratory components to a more complete and commercially useful system.

This is a long-term technology effort. Unlike a regular software startup, a quantum hardware company must spend heavily on research, specialized equipment, testing and engineering talent before reaching large-scale commercial deployment.

How is Quanfluence different

Quanfluence is focusing on photonic quantum computing, while other companies are exploring superconducting, trapped-ion, neutral-atom and silicon-based approaches.

In India, it operates in an emerging field alongside companies such as QPiAI and QNu Labs, although their products and technology focus are different. Internationally, photonic quantum companies include Xanadu, PsiQuantum and Quandela.

Quanfluence’s key difference is its attempt to develop the major parts of the system in-house. This could give the company greater control over its hardware and software, but building a reliable quantum computer remains technically challenging.

Conclusion with key takeaways –

Quanfluence’s Rs. 96.87 crore fundraise is a significant investment in India’s quantum technology ambitions. The company aims to build a photonic quantum computer that can address complex optimization and computing problems.

The funding will support chip development, electronics, optical systems and software. Its 2027 and 2029 milestones show that commercial quantum computing is still a long-term journey, but the startup is working to establish India as a serious player in quantum hardware.
