India’s startup funding scene has produced four very different deals, spanning travel technology, home products, voice-based customer service and electric-vehicle components.

The common thread is growth. Each company is trying to build stronger operations before its market gets more crowded. Still, these are not identical transactions. While TravClan, Chapter Home and Karta AI have brought in outside investors, Shakti EV Mobility has received a fresh capital infusion from its parent company.

TravClan gets $5 million for travel technology expansion

Travel technology company TravClan has raised $5 million from Flipkart and August One, along with debt financing from Trifecta Capital. The company was founded in 2018 by Arun Bagaria, Chirag Agrawal and Ashish Thapliyal.

TravClan works behind the scenes with travel agents, helping them create and book holiday packages, hotels and activities. Instead of a traveller booking a trip directly on an app, a travel agent can use TravClan’s platform to put together the trip.

As per Rediff, The startup plans to use the money to widen its supplier network, improve its technology and artificial intelligence tools, and strengthen operations in international destinations. That could help travel agents offer more customized trips with better local support.

TravClan competes in the wider travel-booking space with platforms such as MakeMyTrip, EaseMyTrip, Cleartrip and online travel agencies, though its business-to-business focus sets it apart.

Chapter Home raises Rs. 63 crore for home and kitchen brands

Chapter Home has raised Rs. 63 crore through a mix of equity and debt. The investors include Bessemer Venture Partners, Stride Ventures, comedian and creator Tanmay Bhat, and family offices as per PeepalsGlobal.

Founded in 2025 by former PharmEasy founding and leadership team members, Chapter Home is building a portfolio of home and kitchen brands. Its first brand, HOKIPO, operates in home furnishings. The company also plans to work across cookware, home décor and small kitchen appliances.

Its model is simple – several brands can share the same sourcing, supply chain, content, technology and distribution system. For example, the same warehouse and delivery setup may support bedsheets, cookware and small appliances.

The company plans to spend the new funds on product development, technology, brand building, wider distribution and its first physical stores. Its rivals may include marketplace private labels, established kitchenware makers and direct-to-consumer home brands.

Karta AI brings voice automation to financial firms

Bengaluru-based Karta AI has raised $3 million in a seed round led by PeerCapital and Cedar Hill Capital. Wyser VC, CDM Capital and Seedstars also participated.

The company was founded in 2024 by Vijaypal Singh and Abhishek Kushwaha, both former Razorpay executives. Karta AI develops customer-communication tools for banks, lenders, fintech firms and insurers across voice calls, chat, email and WhatsApp.

Its main aim is to automate customer support work that is usually handled by call centres. A customer calling about a loan instalment, policy update or repayment date could receive an answer from a voice agent before being transferred to a human, if needed.

The startup says it will use the capital to expand product development, build stronger distribution and add more advanced automation features. Competition will come from customer-service software companies, call-centre technology firms and other voice AI startups as per Businessinfomedia.

Shakti EV Mobility receives Rs. 12 crore from its parent

Shakti Pumps has invested Rs. 12 crore in Shakti EV Mobility, its wholly owned subsidiary. This is not a venture-capital funding round. It is a parent company adding capital to its own EV business.

Shakti EV Mobility was incorporated in December 2021 and makes EV motors, chargers, controllers and related equipment for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers and specialized electric vehicles.

The latest infusion reportedly takes Shakti Pumps’ cumulative investment in the subsidiary to Rs. 92 crore. The purpose is to support business expansion as the company builds its EV component manufacturing operations. It competes in a growing field of Indian electric-mobility component makers supplying vehicle manufacturers.

Demoverse has raised $600,000 in pre-seed funding led by Lumikai, giving the young AI startup fresh capital to build its consumer co-creation platform. The round is worth roughly Rs. 5 crore, with Lumikai contributing $500,000 through its Pixels pre-seed programme.

The startup is working on a simple but powerful idea – instead of brands guessing what people want, why not let shoppers help shape the product before it is made? This can be especially useful in fashion, where wrong demand planning can lead to unsold stock and heavy discounts.

What Demoverse does

Demoverse was founded by Akshay Mehta in 2026.

The platform allows brands to upload early product concepts. Consumers can then use AI tools to modify those concepts within brand guidelines. The community votes on different versions, and the strongest idea can move closer to production.

For example, a clothing brand may upload a jacket design. Users can suggest changes like a shorter hem, different colour, wider collar or new fabric style. AI creates those variations, and the community responds to them. This gives the brand a clearer signal before spending money on manufacturing.

Startup aim

Demoverse wants to shift brands from user-generated content to what it calls user-generated products. User-generated content means people make posts, videos or reviews about products. User-generated products go one step further, where consumers help create the actual item that may later be sold.

This matters because many brands still depend on surveys, trend reports or small focus groups before launching products. These methods can be slow, costly and sometimes inaccurate. Demoverse wants to make product testing more live, interactive and closer to real customer taste.

Funding purpose

Demoverse will use the fresh funding to turn early trials with Indian consumer brands into paid campaigns. It also plans to expand beyond fashion into areas such as beauty and packaged goods.

The startup’s model also gives consumers a reason to participate. If a user’s design gets selected and commercialized, they can earn royalties. This makes the platform more than a feedback tool. It becomes a shared creation space between brands and their audience.

Why this idea is useful

Fashion and consumer brands often face a difficult question – how much should they produce? Make too little, and they miss demand. Make too much, and unsold stock becomes a loss.

McKinsey and The Business of Fashion estimated that the fashion industry had $70 billion to $140 billion worth of excess inventory in 2023, according to reports cited by StartupTalky and Economic Times. Demoverse is trying to reduce that risk by helping brands understand demand before production.

Competitors and market view

Demoverse sits between AI design tools, consumer research platforms and product-testing software. Its broader competitors may include survey platforms, focus group tools, design collaboration software and AI image-generation tools used by brands.

Its real edge will depend on whether brands get useful demand signals from the platform. If consumers enjoy co-creating and brands can turn those signals into better-selling products, Demoverse could become valuable in fashion and beyond.

Open Secret has raised Rs. 50 crore in fresh funding to expand its healthy snacks business. The round includes Rs. 30 crore in primary equity investment from Desai Brothers Group, while the rest has been raised through institutional debt.

For a brand built around “Unjunking” everyday snacks, this is a useful moment. India’s snack shelf is changing. People still want biscuits, chips, namkeen, cookies and sweets, but more buyers are now checking labels, sugar, maida, palm oil and protein content before adding products to the cart.

Open Secret is trying to sit right in that gap. It does not ask people to stop snacking. It wants to make familiar snacks cleaner, easier to trust and still tasty enough for regular homes.

What Open Secret does

Open Secret is a D2C healthy snacking brand founded in 2019 by Ahana Gautam. The brand began with a simple idea – Indian families should have better snack options without feeling that healthy food means boring food.

The company sells products such as cookies, namkeen, chips, nuts, protein snacks, breakfast items, dry fruits, seeds, chocolates and gifting packs. Its wider platform also features several food and beverage brands that fit its “UnJunk” positioning.

On its own website, Open Secret says its goal is to “Unjunk India, one snack at a time.” That line explains the brand’s direction better than any long pitch. It wants to replace everyday junk snacks with products that avoid ingredients many health-conscious buyers now dislike.

Funding details

Open Secret has raised Rs. 50 crore in this round. Out of this, Rs. 30 crore is primary equity funding from Desai Brothers Group.

Desai Brothers Group is known in the consumer food space and owns brands such as Mother’s Recipe. Its investment can bring more than capital. A strategic investor with experience in packaged foods can help a young brand understand distribution, supply chain, retail shelves and category expansion.

The remaining amount has been raised through institutional debt. This mix is common for consumer brands that need money for inventory, manufacturing, working capital and distribution growth.

Startup aim and purpose

Open Secret’s purpose is not to create a luxury snack brand for a small metro audience. Its larger ambition is to make cleaner snacks more common in Indian homes.

That is not an easy job. Indian snacking is emotional. People are attached to chai-time biscuits, namkeen bowls, school tiffin treats and festival boxes. A brand cannot win only by saying “healthy.” The taste has to work. The price has to make sense. The product must be available where families shop.

Open Secret’s aim is to keep the comfort of familiar snacks while improving the ingredient story. For example, baked bhujia instead of fried, cookies without maida, snacks without palm oil, or sweets made with better ingredient choices.

Why this funding matters

Healthy snacking has moved from a niche category to a serious consumer business. A few years ago, such products were mostly bought by fitness-focused people or premium urban buyers. Now the category is wider. Parents want better snacks for children. Working professionals want office munchies that do not feel too heavy. Young consumers want taste, but not guilt.

Fresh funding can help Open Secret expand faster in this market. It can use the capital to grow product lines, improve manufacturing, expand distribution, invest in marketing and reach more retail and online channels.

The debt portion may also support working capital. In packaged foods, growth needs stock. More stock means more raw material, packaging, warehousing and logistics. That is where capital becomes important.

How Open Secret may use the money

The company is likely to use the funds to deepen its healthy snacks portfolio and strengthen its reach.

That could mean more products in biscuits, namkeen, protein-rich snacks, dry fruits, breakfast and kids-focused categories. It may also push harder into quick commerce, modern trade, marketplaces and direct website sales.

Quick commerce is especially important now. Many snack purchases are impulse-led. If a buyer wants something for evening tea, a 10-minute delivery platform can influence the choice. Open Secret needs to be visible there if it wants to compete with bigger packaged snack brands.

Retail distribution will also matter. D2C is useful for discovery, but snacks become daily habit when they are available in local stores, supermarkets and office pantries.

The clean snacking opportunity

India is one of the world’s most snack-loving markets. Tea breaks, travel, school tiffins, office drawers and late-night cravings all create regular demand.

The problem is that many traditional packaged snacks are high in refined flour, sugar, salt, palm oil or fried ingredients. Consumers may not give them up fully, but many are looking for better options.

That is the opening for brands like Open Secret. If it can offer snacks that taste close to familiar favourites while improving nutrition and ingredients, it can find repeat buyers.

The trick is balance. Too healthy, and the product may not taste fun. Too tasty but not meaningfully better, and the brand loses its promise.

Competitors

Open Secret competes in a crowded space. Its rivals include both new-age brands and large food companies.

In the healthy and better-for-you category, it competes with brands like The Whole Truth, Yoga Bar, Slurrp Farm, TagZ Foods, Happilo, Let’s Try, Nourish Organics and Wingreens-style packaged food brands.

In mainstream snacking, it indirectly competes with giants like Haldiram’s, Britannia, Parle, ITC, PepsiCo, Bikano and Too Yumm!. These companies have deep distribution, strong pricing and high brand recall.

Open Secret’s edge is its sharper health-led positioning. Its challenge is scale. Big brands can reach every kirana shelf. A younger brand must work harder to become a daily habit.

Challenges ahead

Open Secret has a strong story, but the road is not simple.

Healthy snacks are often more expensive than regular snacks. If prices are too high, families may buy occasionally but not every week. The brand will need to manage cost without weakening quality.

Taste is another test. A snack may have clean ingredients, but if children or families do not enjoy it, repeat purchase will be weak.

The third challenge is trust. Health claims must be clear and responsible. Consumers are becoming smarter. They read labels and compare brands. Open Secret must avoid overpromising and keep the product experience honest.

Distribution is the fourth challenge. Online growth is useful, but packaged food needs wider availability. The brand will need both digital and offline strength.

Conclusion – Key takeaways

Open Secret’s Rs. 50 crore funding gives the brand more room to grow in India’s healthy snacking market. The round includes Rs. 30 crore equity investment from Desai Brothers Group and institutional debt for the remaining amount.

Founded in 2019 by Ahana Gautam, Open Secret wants to make everyday snacks cleaner without taking away taste and familiarity. Its purpose is simple – help Indian families move from junk snacking to better snacking.

The opportunity is large, but competition is serious. If Open Secret can keep taste, price, trust and distribution in balance, this funding round can help it become a stronger name in India’s packaged healthy snacks market.

Lab-grown diamond jewellery brand Aukera has raised Rs. 90 crore in fresh debt funding led by existing investor Alteria Capital. The round also saw participation from InnoVen Capital, Lighthouse Canton and a leading bank. The funding comes at a time when lab-grown diamonds are becoming more accepted among Indian buyers, especially younger customers who want bigger, high-quality diamond jewellery without paying the same price as mined diamonds.

Aukera is not trying to play only on discounts. Its bigger aim appears to be building trust, design depth and a premium retail experience in a category that is still new for many Indian families.

Why this funding matters

Aukera has raised this money through debt funding. That means the company is borrowing capital instead of selling more ownership in the business.

For a fast-growing retail brand, debt can be useful when the business needs money for store expansion, inventory, design, technology and working capital. Jewellery is a capital-heavy business. A brand needs showrooms, trained staff, product collections, certification processes and customer support.

Aukera had earlier raised $15 million in equity funding led by Peak XV Partners. The latest Rs. 90 crore round gives the company more financial strength as it expands in a competitive market.

The company has grown its store count from 13 to 35 outlets in the past year. It has entered cities such as Pune, Lucknow, Dehradun and Visakhapatnam, along with its presence in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Delhi-NCR.

Founders and company background

Aukera is led by Lisa Mukhedkar, Founder and CEO, and Kumar Saurabh, Co-founder.

The brand is based in Bengaluru and focuses on lab-grown diamond jewellery. Its positioning is more premium than purely budget-led, which is important because jewellery buying in India is deeply linked to trust, family decisions and long-term value.

What Aukera is trying to build

Aukera’s purpose is not just to sell cheaper diamonds. The larger idea is to make lab-grown diamond jewellery feel aspirational, reliable and suitable for serious purchases.

Many buyers still have questions. Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds? Do they look the same? Are they certified? Can they be worn for weddings? Will family members accept them?

A brand like Aukera has to answer these questions through product quality, certification, store experience and clear communication.

Lab-grown diamonds are created in a controlled environment using technology. They have the same core carbon structure as mined diamonds, but they are not extracted from the earth. This makes them attractive for buyers who care about price, design choice and sustainability.

How the Rs. 90 crore can support its aim

The new funding can help Aukera in four practical ways.

First, it can support more stores. Jewellery is still a touch-and-feel category in India. Many customers want to see the sparkle, try the ring, compare designs and speak to a salesperson before buying.

Second, it can improve product design. Lab-grown diamonds allow customers to consider larger stones and modern designs at more accessible prices. Better design can help the brand move beyond simple solitaire rings into wedding jewellery, daily wear, occasion wear and gifting.

Third, it can strengthen technology and omnichannel systems. Today’s jewellery buyer may discover a design online, visit a store, compare prices on WhatsApp, and then complete the purchase later. A strong mix of online and offline experience can improve conversion.

Fourth, it can support working capital. Jewellery brands need enough inventory across stores. If a customer walks in for an engagement ring or anniversary gift, limited stock can mean lost sales.

Why lab-grown diamonds are gaining attention

The biggest reason is value. A customer can often get a bigger or better-quality stone in the lab-grown category compared with a mined diamond at the same budget.

For example, a couple shopping for an engagement ring may have a fixed budget. With a mined diamond, they may need to compromise on size or clarity. With a lab-grown diamond, they may be able to choose a larger stone or a more refined design.

Another reason is changing mindset. Younger buyers are more open to new categories if the product looks good, is certified and feels transparent. They are less tied to old buying rules than previous generations.

At the same time, the category still needs education. Many people confuse lab-grown diamonds with fake stones. That is where trusted retail brands can play a big role.

Competitors in the market

Aukera is entering a busy and fast-moving space. Its competitors include lab-grown diamond brands such as Limelight Lab Grown Diamonds, Fiona Diamonds, Jewelbox, Solitario, Lucira and ONYA.

It also faces indirect competition from larger jewellery names and online-first jewellery platforms such as GIVA, CaratLane, BlueStone and traditional jewellers that may expand deeper into lab-grown diamond collections.

The real competition will not be only about price. In jewellery, customers look at trust, certification, design, store location, exchange policies, resale clarity and brand reputation.

Aukera’s challenge will be to prove that premium lab-grown diamond jewellery can become a mainstream choice, not just a trend.

What customers should keep in mind

Lab-grown diamonds can be a smart option, but buyers should still be careful.

Always check certification. Understand the cut, colour, clarity and carat. Ask about buyback, exchange and upgrade policies. Compare prices across brands. Also make sure the jewellery design and metal quality match the price being charged.

For weddings or family occasions, buyers should also discuss openly with family members, because acceptance of lab-grown diamonds is still growing in India.

Conclusion with key takeaways

Aukera’s Rs. 90 crore funding round shows that investors are taking India’s lab-grown diamond jewellery market seriously. The brand now has more room to expand stores, improve design, build technology and strengthen its premium positioning.

The opportunity is strong, but success will depend on trust. Lab-grown diamonds may offer better value, but customers will choose brands that make the buying experience clear, confident and emotionally satisfying.

Key takeaways

Aukera has raised Rs. 90 crore in debt funding led by Alteria Capital.

InnoVen Capital, Lighthouse Canton and a leading bank also participated.

The company plans to use the money for store expansion, product development, design, technology and omnichannel growth.

Aukera is led by Founder and CEO Lisa Mukhedkar and Co-founder Kumar Saurabh.

The brand has expanded from 13 to 35 stores in the past year.

The company competes with lab-grown diamond and modern jewellery brands in a fast-growing category.

BCT Ventures has launched with Rs. 42 crore in seed funding from 3one4 Capital. The startup is building an AI-native consumer brands platform, starting with the nutrition and wellness category.

This is not a regular D2C brand launch. BCT Ventures wants to use artificial intelligence across the full brand-building process, from finding consumer needs to creating products and scaling marketing. In simple words, it wants to build consumer brands faster and smarter by using AI at every important step.

The timing is interesting. Indian consumers are spending more on health, preventive care, fitness, longevity, and performance-focused products. At the same time, many wellness categories still feel confusing for buyers. BCT Ventures wants to build brands that combine product depth, expert guidance and digital growth.

What BCT Ventures does

BCT Ventures is a platform that will create and scale consumer brands. Its first focus area is nutrition and wellness.

The company believes this category is moving away from generic supplements and basic health products. Many urban consumers now want products built around specific needs, such as better sleep, gut health, fitness recovery, daily energy, healthy ageing, or preventive care.

For example, a buyer may not want a random protein powder anymore. They may want a product that fits their age, fitness goal, diet pattern, and medical concerns. This is where BCT Ventures wants to use practitioner-led knowledge and AI-driven insights to build sharper products.

Founder details

BCT Ventures was founded by Kashyap Vadapalli, KV Ravi Shekhar, and Anubhav Sonthalia.

The founding team brings experience across consumer brand building, digital growth, audience scaling, mergers and acquisitions, and venture building. They have worked across companies such as Google, eBay, Pepperfry, Doubtnut, Vedantu, WPP, Sokrati, and Dentsu.

This background matters because building consumer brands is not only about launching products. It also needs customer understanding, distribution, marketing, operations, and repeat purchases.

The source article does not clearly mention the founding year, so it is better not to state it as a confirmed fact.

How BCT Ventures will use AI

BCT Ventures is building its model around three proprietary AI engines. These engines are meant to work together like a closed system, where customer data and market learning keep improving future decisions.

The first engine is called Resonance. It focuses on trust and attention. It uses practitioner-led content and AI workflows to build owned audiences and identify consumer needs early.

The second engine is called Nucleus. It is the product engine. It takes expert knowledge, customer demand signals and market gaps to create protocol-first products. Protocol-first means the product is built around a clear use case or health approach, not just a broad claim.

The third engine is called Meridian. It focuses on performance marketing. It uses AI to improve creative testing, media buying, budget allocation and return on ad spend.

In simple terms, Resonance finds what people need, Nucleus helps build the product, and Meridian helps sell it efficiently.

Why nutrition and wellness is the first focus

Nutrition and wellness is a smart starting point because the category is growing, but trust remains a major issue.

Many consumers are confused by claims around supplements, vitamins, performance products, immunity boosters, and fitness nutrition. Some products sound impressive but do not clearly explain who they are for or how they should be used.

BCT Ventures wants to build brands backed by practitioners and specific health protocols. This can help buyers feel more confident if the products are explained clearly and responsibly.

The larger trend is also in its favour. Preventive health is becoming more popular in India. People are trying to avoid future health problems instead of waiting until something goes wrong. This shift is creating demand for better nutrition, fitness, sleep, mental wellness and performance products.

Why the Rs. 42 crore seed round matters

A Rs. 42 crore seed round is a strong start for a consumer platform. It gives BCT Ventures enough capital to build technology, hire teams, create its first brands, test products, and invest in customer acquisition.

Consumer brands often need money before they become profitable. They must spend on product development, packaging, content, marketing, distribution, inventory and customer support.

For an AI-native platform, there is also a technology layer. BCT Ventures will need to build and improve its AI engines, collect clean customer insights, and make sure its systems actually improve decisions instead of only adding complexity.

3one4 Capital leading the round also gives the startup credibility. The venture capital firm has backed several Indian startups and is known for investing across technology-led businesses.

Competitors and market context

BCT Ventures will compete in a busy consumer health and wellness market. In India, brands such as HealthKart, OZiva, Kapiva, Wellbeing Nutrition, Cureveda, The Whole Truth, MuscleBlaze, Fast&Up, and Plix are already active across nutrition, wellness, supplements and performance categories.

Its competition is not only from D2C brands. Pharmacies, marketplaces, fitness platforms, doctors, nutritionists and global supplement companies also influence what consumers buy.

BCT Ventures’ possible advantage is its platform approach. Instead of building one brand in one category, it wants to create a repeatable system for launching multiple consumer brands. If its AI-led model works, it can move into other underserved consumer categories over time.

The challenge will be trust. Health and wellness buyers are careful, and rightly so. BCT Ventures will need strong product quality, clear communication, responsible claims, expert backing and good customer experience.

What this means for Indian D2C

BCT Ventures reflects a larger shift in Indian D2C. The first wave of D2C brands used social media, influencer marketing and online marketplaces to grow. The next wave may rely more on data, AI, expert content, deeper product research and stronger customer communities.

This does not mean AI will replace brand building. A product still needs to work. Customers still need to trust it. The packaging, pricing, taste, results, delivery and support still matter.

But AI can help founders make better decisions. It can spot customer questions, test ad creatives faster, understand demand patterns, and improve product planning.

Conclusion with key takeaways

BCT Ventures’ Rs. 42 crore seed funding shows investor interest in a new kind of consumer brand platform. The startup is not just building a wellness brand. It is trying to build an AI-native system for creating and scaling multiple brands.

Its first focus on nutrition and wellness makes sense because the market is growing and consumers are asking for more trusted, specific and outcome-led products.

The idea is ambitious. The real test will be whether BCT Ventures can turn AI-led insights into products that customers actually trust and buy repeatedly.

Ananta Capital has acquired a majority stake in Phitku, a D2C personal care brand, in a deal valued at around Rs. 100 crore, according to Moneycontrol. The acquisition gives Phitku a stronger platform to grow beyond its early online customer base and enter the next stage of brand building.

Phitku was founded in 2024 by actor and entrepreneur Neha Marda, her brother Sumit Marda, and Rahul Dokania. The brand became widely noticed after its appearance on Shark Tank India Season 5, where the founders pitched Phitku as a natural alternative to regular deodorants.

This deal is important because India’s personal care market is moving fast. Customers are looking beyond basic sprays and strong fragrances. Many now want products that feel safer on skin, are easier to understand, and come from brands with a clear purpose.

What Phitku sells

Phitku’s main product is a deodorant stick made with refined alum stone and natural ingredients. The brand positions it as an option for people who want odour protection without using regular deodorant sprays.

The product story is personal. Neha Marda had spoken earlier about facing body odour and underarm pigmentation concerns after pregnancy. That experience became one of the reasons behind building Phitku.

This makes the brand more relatable. Instead of selling a generic beauty product, Phitku is trying to solve a daily problem that many people feel shy to discuss.

Why Ananta Capital acquired Phitku

The purpose of this acquisition is likely growth, structure and wider distribution.

Phitku already had visibility because of its Shark Tank India appearance and celebrity founder story. But growing a D2C brand needs more than attention. It needs money, supply chain control, marketing discipline, retail access and a strong team.

Ananta Capital can help Phitku move from a founder-led online brand to a larger personal care business. The company may also help Phitku improve operations, expand product lines and enter offline stores, quick commerce platforms and beauty retail channels.

For Ananta Capital, this is a bet on a repeat-use category. Deodorant is not a one-time purchase. If customers like the product, they can buy again regularly. That makes the category attractive for investors.

Why the Rs. 100 crore deal matters

A Rs. 100 crore deal gives Phitku a serious valuation and shows investor confidence in its future.

It also shows that D2C personal care is still an active space in India. Even though many startups have struggled with high marketing costs, focused brands with clear products can still attract capital.

Phitku has a simple pitch – natural deodorant for odour care. If the company can keep the product quality strong and make the price more acceptable for a wider audience, it can grow beyond its early followers.

Competitors in the market

Phitku competes with large deodorant brands such as Nivea, Dove, Rexona, Engage, Fogg, Yardley and Park Avenue.

It also competes with newer D2C personal care brands such as Plum, The Man Company, mCaffeine, Earth Rhythm, Juicy Chemistry, Vilvah and Minimalist in the broader clean personal care space.

The challenge for Phitku is habit change. Many Indian buyers are used to spray deodorants with strong fragrance and lower pricing. Phitku will need to explain why its deodorant stick is different and why it is worth trying.

What could happen next

After the Ananta Capital deal, Phitku may expand its product range. A brand built around body odour care can move into roll-ons, body wash, underarm care, foot care, intimate hygiene or fragrance-free personal care products.

Offline retail may also become important. Personal care buyers often like to see or test a product before buying. If Phitku reaches beauty stores, pharmacies and modern retail outlets, it can build trust with new customers.

Quick commerce can also help. Deodorant is a product people often need quickly, so availability on fast-delivery apps can improve repeat purchases.

Conclusion with key takeaways

Ananta Capital’s majority stake acquisition in Phitku is a strong signal for India’s D2C personal care market. The deal gives Phitku capital and support to scale, while Ananta gets access to a young brand in a high-repeat category.

Atom XVII has launched a Rs. 75 crore fund to back consumer-focused startups in India, according to a report. The move comes at a time when India’s consumer market is becoming more interesting for early-stage investors. Indian shoppers are changing fast. They are trying new food brands, beauty products, wellness items, home goods, fashion labels and digital-first services. Many of these brands are starting online, building loyal communities, and then moving into retail stores.

For a fund like Atom XVII, the opportunity is clear. If it can identify young consumer brands early, support them with capital and business guidance, and help them scale responsibly, it can benefit from India’s growing consumption story.

What Atom XVII’s fund aims to do

The Rs. 75 crore fund is focused on consumer startups. In simple words, this means companies that sell products or services directly to people. These may include brands in food, beverages, personal care, fashion, home products, lifestyle, wellness, beauty, pet care or other everyday-use categories. The fund’s purpose is to support businesses that understand what Indian consumers want and can build strong brands around those needs.

Consumer startups often need money for product development, packaging, inventory, marketing, distribution and hiring. A young brand may have a good product, but without the right funding and guidance, it may struggle to reach more customers.

Why this matters for Indian startups

India’s consumer startup market has become crowded, but it is still full of opportunity. The next big brands may not come only from large FMCG companies. They may come from founders who understand a small customer problem deeply.

For example, a startup may build healthier snacks for office workers, clean-label skincare for young buyers, affordable premium kitchen products for new households, or regional food brands for modern retail. These are not just small ideas. If the product works and customers repeat purchases, such brands can grow into serious businesses.

Atom XVII’s fund can help such startups during the early stage, when the business is still proving its product, pricing and customer demand.

Purpose of the fund

The larger purpose of the fund is to back India’s changing consumer behaviour. Young consumers are more open to trying new brands. Tier-II and Tier-III cities are also becoming stronger markets because of quick commerce, online payments, social media and better logistics. A brand no longer needs to start only in Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru to become visible.

At the same time, customers are more demanding. They want better quality, honest pricing, clear packaging and fast delivery. Startups that can meet these expectations may grow faster than older brands that move slowly.

Atom XVII’s role will likely be to support founders who can build for this new consumer. That may mean helping them with brand positioning, distribution strategy, product-market fit and investor readiness.

Scope of the opportunity

The scope is wide because consumer spending touches many daily habits. People buy food, grooming products, clothes, health products, home items and lifestyle goods regularly.

This repeat nature makes consumer startups attractive. If a customer likes a shampoo, snack, beverage or wellness product, they may buy it again and again. That repeat purchase can build a strong business over time. But the same market is also risky. Customers have many choices. Online ads are expensive. Retail shelf space is hard to win. Margins can be thin if manufacturing, returns or discounts are not managed well.

So the best consumer startups are not only good at marketing. They also understand supply chains, unit economics, customer retention and product quality.

Possible startup categories Atom XVII may look at

The fund may find opportunities in food and beverages, where Indian consumers are trying new flavours, healthier options and regional brands. Beauty and personal care is another strong area. Buyers are looking for products around skin, hair, grooming and clean-label ingredients.

Health and wellness can also be important. Protein, supplements, gut health, sugar alternatives and functional foods are becoming more mainstream. Home and lifestyle products may also attract attention as more young households spend on better design, convenience and comfort.

Pet care, kids’ products and senior care are smaller but growing categories where focused brands can build loyal customers.

Competitors and similar funds

Atom XVII will be operating in a space where several investors already back consumer brands. Fireside Ventures is one of the most visible consumer-focused venture firms in India. It recently closed a large Fund IV and continues to back early-stage consumer brands.

Sauce VC is another active investor in consumer brands and has backed companies in food, lifestyle and consumer products. It has also closed an opportunities fund to support its high-growth portfolio companies.

Other relevant names include DSG Consumer Partners, Sixth Sense Ventures, V3 Ventures, Wipro Consumer Care Ventures and several family offices that invest in D2C and FMCG brands. Atom XVII’s challenge will be to stand out through founder access, sharper category selection and practical help after investment.

What founders may expect

For founders, a Rs. 75 crore fund can be useful if it provides more than money. Early consumer brands need help with packaging, pricing, distribution, customer acquisition and repeat sales.

A founder may know how to make a strong product, but may not know how to enter modern trade, quick commerce or offline retail. Another founder may have strong social media traction but weak margins. A good investor can help fix such gaps.

The best funds in this space work closely with founders. They help with hiring, brand strategy, retail partnerships, financial planning and follow-on fundraising.

Conclusion with key takeaways

Atom XVII’s Rs. 75 crore fund arrives at a good time for India’s consumer startup market. The opportunity is large because Indian buyers are experimenting with new brands across food, beauty, wellness, home and lifestyle categories.

The fund’s success will depend on how well it chooses startups and supports them after investment. In consumer businesses, growth is exciting, but repeat purchases, margins and trust decide the long-term winner.

Hyderabad-based startup Xtovia has raised Rs. 6.9 crore in a pre-seed funding round led by V3 Ventures. Consumer Collective by Atrium and a group of angel investors also participated in the round. The startup is working in the haircare and personal care space, a category that has become very active in India over the last few years. Consumers are no longer buying hair oil or shampoo only out of habit. Many now look for products based on hair fall, scalp care, frizz control, dandruff, hair growth support, styling needs and ingredient quality.

For a young brand like Xtovia, this funding can help it build products, improve distribution and reach more customers in a crowded but fast-growing market.

What Xtovia does

Xtovia is a haircare startup. Its focus is on building products for Indian consumers who want more targeted solutions for hair and scalp needs. Since the company is still at a pre-seed stage, it may use the new capital to finalize products, improve branding, strengthen research, and test what customers are willing to buy repeatedly.

In simple words, Xtovia is entering a market where people want haircare products that feel more personal. A customer with dry hair may not want the same product as someone dealing with dandruff. Someone facing hair thinning may want a different routine from someone who mainly wants smoother hair.

Xtovia, a premium science-led haircare startup, was founded in 2025 by Navneet Misra (a serial entrepreneur) and Dr. Tunga Madhu Babu (who serves as the Head of R&D and holds a PhD from IIT Madras).

Why this funding matters

Pre-seed funding is usually the first serious outside capital a startup raises. It often helps a company move from early testing to a stronger business setup. For Xtovia, the money can support product development, hiring, branding, customer acquisition and distribution. In haircare, this matters because the product must earn trust. Customers may try a new shampoo or serum once, but they continue only if the product fits their routine and gives a good experience.

The funding also matters because V3 Ventures is focused on consumer brands. Its official website says it invests in early-stage consumer businesses across categories including wellness, beauty, skincare, bodycare, haircare, health supplements, food, lifestyle and digital health.

That makes V3 Ventures a relevant investor for Xtovia. A haircare startup needs more than capital. It needs help with brand building, packaging, pricing, customer insight, repeat purchases and retail strategy.

Xtovia’s purpose

Xtovia’s purpose appears to be building a modern haircare brand for Indian consumers. The larger goal is likely to solve everyday hair problems with products that are easy to understand and use.

This is important because many consumers feel confused by the number of haircare products available today. There are oils, masks, serums, leave-in creams, scalp treatments, shampoos, conditioners and supplements. A good brand can win by making the routine simpler, not more complicated.

For example, a young professional dealing with hair fall may want a clear three-step routine instead of ten different products. A college student with frizzy hair may want one affordable product that works after every wash. A customer with dandruff may want a scalp-first solution rather than only a cosmetic fix.

If Xtovia can build around such practical needs, it can create a loyal customer base.

Scope of the haircare market

India’s haircare market is large because haircare is part of everyday grooming. It is not an occasional purchase. Most households buy shampoo, oil, conditioner or styling products regularly.

The premium and problem-solution segment is growing faster because customers are becoming more aware. Social media, dermatologists, beauty creators and D2C brands have changed how people think about haircare. Earlier, many buyers would choose one family shampoo. Now, people ask sharper questions. Is it suitable for curly hair? Does it help oily scalp? Is it sulphate-free? Can it reduce breakage? Is it safe for coloured hair?

This shift creates space for startups. Large FMCG companies still dominate mass haircare, but young brands can build smaller, focused communities around specific needs.

Possible offerings and business direction

Xtovia may build its business across shampoos, conditioners, serums, scalp treatments, oils, masks or targeted haircare routines. Since public details are limited, the exact product roadmap should be watched closely. The startup may also choose a digital-first model, which is common for early consumer brands. This means selling through its own website, marketplaces, quick-commerce platforms and social media-led campaigns before expanding offline.

If the products gain traction, offline retail can become important. Haircare is a repeat category, and many consumers still buy from supermarkets, pharmacies, beauty stores and local shops.

Competitors in the market

Xtovia will enter a competitive space. It may compete with digital-first haircare and personal care brands such as Traya, Bare Anatomy, Man Matters, Minimalist, WishCare, Pilgrim and The Derma Co. It will also face large established companies such as Hindustan Unilever, L’Oreal, Marico, Dabur, Himalaya and P&G. These companies have strong distribution and long-standing consumer trust.

Xtovia’s opportunity will come from focus. A new brand can move faster, speak directly to younger consumers and build sharper products for specific problems. But it will need to prove quality, safety, pricing and repeat value.

Challenges ahead

The first challenge is trust. Haircare is personal, and customers can be careful before trying a new brand. If a product feels harsh, ineffective or overhyped, buyers may not return.

The second challenge is differentiation. Many brands now use similar words such as clean, natural, science-backed, dermatologist-approved or toxin-free. Xtovia will need a clearer story than just category buzzwords.

The third challenge is customer acquisition cost. Online advertising has become expensive. A new D2C brand must find ways to build organic trust through content, reviews, referrals and product performance.

Conclusion with key takeaways

Xtovia’s Rs. 6.9 crore pre-seed funding gives the young haircare startup a stronger start in India’s fast-moving personal care market. With V3 Ventures leading the round, the company gets backing from an investor that understands consumer brands and beauty-led categories.

The startup’s next step will be important. If Xtovia can build clear products for real haircare needs and earn repeat customers, it can find space in a crowded market. But it will need strong product quality and honest positioning to stand out.
