India’s electric SUV market is heading towards an interesting end to 2026. Honda has confirmed that its 0 Alpha electric SUV will make its India debut on December 2, while Hyundai is preparing its compact HE1i electric SUV for a launch by the end of the year.

Mahindra is also part of the larger SUV story, and coming up with new SUVs Mahindra Vision.S, Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler, Mahindra BE.07, Mahindra Vision.T as per its Global vision.

Honda 0 Alpha EV India debut on December 2

As per NDTV Auto, Honda has confirmed December 2, 2026, as the India debut date for its 0 Alpha electric SUV. This will be a key model for Honda Cars India because it is expected to become the brand’s first electric SUV for the country.

The 0 Alpha was first shown as a prototype at the Japan Mobility Show in 2025. Honda has been testing it on Indian roads to assess its performance, efficiency and durability in local traffic, climate and road conditions.

Honda has not yet shared final battery size, driving range, variants or price. That means buyers should treat all specification and price estimates circulating online as unofficial until the December event.

The production model is expected to be locally manufactured for India, with exports also planned. It could compete with the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and Tata Sierra EV, depending on its final price and size.

Hyundai HE1i could target budget EV buyers

Hyundai’s upcoming compact electric SUV, internally called HE1i, is expected to arrive by the end of 2026. Hyundai Motor India Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg has confirmed an end-of-year debut, but the company has not announced an exact launch date, final name, range or price.

As per Autocar India, the HE1i is expected to be a sub-four-metre electric SUV built on Hyundai’s affordable E-GMP K electric-car platform. This is important because a dedicated EV platform can allow better space management than a petrol-car platform converted to electric power.

Hyundai’s new EV is likely to target customers looking at the Tata Punch EV, Tata Nexon EV, Citroen eC3 and Kia Syros EV. If Hyundai prices it sensibly, it could appeal to city commuters who want lower running costs without stepping into a larger and more expensive electric SUV.

For example, a household that mostly drives within the city for office trips, school runs and shopping may care more about charging convenience, cabin space and price than extreme highway range.

Mahindra’s 2026 SUV updates are already here

Mahindra launched the XUV 7XO in January 2026 as the successor to the XUV700. It retains petrol and diesel engine options while adding a triple-screen dashboard, new suspension technology and more advanced driver-assistance features. Prices begin at Rs. 13.66 lakh, ex-showroom.

The XUV 3XO EV also arrived in January 2026, with a starting price of Rs. 13.89 lakh, ex-showroom. It expands Mahindra’s EV range for buyers who want a smaller electric SUV than the BE 6 or XEV 9S.

The Scorpio-N received a major feature update in August 2026. The revised model brought additions such as a panoramic sunroof, 540-degree camera system, larger screens and updated alloy wheels. It remains the better choice for buyers who value a rugged, ladder-frame SUV with diesel and four-wheel-drive options.

What buyers should watch

Honda’s December 2 event will reveal whether the 0 Alpha can offer a convincing blend of range, features and price. Hyundai’s HE1i will be closely watched because the affordable EV segment is becoming crowded fast.

Mahindra, meanwhile, already has products across petrol, diesel and electric SUV categories. The decision for buyers comes down to usage. A city-focused customer may prefer a compact EV, while regular highway travellers or off-road users may find an ICE-powered XUV 7XO or Scorpio-N more practical.
