Every photo stored in the cloud, online payment, video call, AI prompt, streaming show, and mobile app depends on physical machines somewhere. Those machines sit inside data centers.

A data center is often described as “the cloud,” but there is nothing weightless about it. It needs land, buildings, power lines, backup systems, cooling equipment, water in some designs, and thousands of pieces of hardware. As demand for AI, digital payments, e-commerce, and connected vehicles rises, data centers are becoming an important part of modern infrastructure. They are also raising serious questions about electricity, water, and emissions.

What is a data center and why is it built

A data center is a secure facility that stores, processes, and sends digital information. It may support a bank’s mobile app, a hospital’s records, an automobile company’s connected-car platform, or an AI service.

Companies build or rent data-center space to keep services available around the clock. The facility protects equipment from outages, overheating, cyber risks, fire, and physical damage. It also helps businesses handle large numbers of users without their website or app slowing down.

Cloud companies such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud compete to offer this computing capacity. Telecom firms, banks, startups, government departments, and large manufacturers also operate their own facilities or lease space from specialist operators.

The main parts inside a data center

The servers do the actual computing. They run websites, databases, apps, AI models, and business software. Storage systems keep files, videos, backups, and customer records. Networking equipment, including switches and routers, moves data between servers and out to users.

But the equipment around the servers is just as important. A data center needs uninterrupted power supply systems, batteries, transformers, backup generators, cables, fire-suppression systems, security controls, and cooling equipment.

Land matters because a large campus needs room for the building, power substation, diesel generators, cooling systems, water infrastructure, access roads, and future expansion. Reliable electricity is usually the first deciding factor when choosing a location.

Cooling is essential because servers release heat continuously. Depending on the design, a facility may use air cooling, chilled water, cooling towers, outside air, or direct liquid cooling. Water use can be low in an air-cooled site and much higher in a facility using evaporative cooling towers.

A 1 MW data center – the basic calculation

To keep the example clear, assume the data center has a 1 MW IT load. In simple terms, its servers, storage, and networking equipment use 1 MW of electricity.

Now assume a Power Usage Effectiveness, or PUE, of 1.50. PUE measures total facility energy divided by IT-equipment energy. A PUE of 1.50 means that for every 1 kWh used by computers, another 0.5 kWh is used by cooling, power conversion, lighting, and other building systems.

The global average PUE reported by Uptime Institute was 1.56 in 2024, while newer large facilities can do better than older sites as per Uptime Institute.

With a PUE of 1.50, the 1 MW IT load becomes a 1.5 MW total facility load.

If electricity costs Rs. 8 per kWh, the energy bill alone works out to roughly:

This does not include land, construction, generators, equipment replacement, employees, network connectivity, taxes, water treatment, or maintenance.

How many servers can 1 MW support

There is no fixed answer because a basic business server may use a few hundred watts, while a powerful AI server can use several kilowatts or more.

For a simple illustration, if each compute server uses an average of 2 kW, 1 MW could power about 500 servers if all IT capacity went to those servers. In reality, some power must also go to storage and networking, so the actual number could be lower.

If those 500 servers each had two 64-core processors, the facility could contain around 64,000 physical CPU cores. That is not the same as a fixed level of performance. AI workloads depend heavily on GPUs and accelerators, while website hosting may depend more on memory, storage speed, and network capacity.

The US Department of Energy notes that server power varies widely, from mainstream systems to mid-range and high-end machines using roughly 2 kW and 12 kW respectively.

Water use and carbon emissions

Water use depends heavily on local weather and cooling technology. Using a planning estimate of 1.8 litres per kWh of total facility energy, a 1 MW IT data center with a 1.50 PUE could use about 23.65 million litres of water annually at the site. This is an estimate, not a universal figure. An air-cooled facility may use much less on-site water, while a cooling-tower design in a hot climate may use more as per US Department of Energy.

For carbon, assume the Indian grid factor of 0.716 kg CO2 per kWh, based on the Central Electricity Authority’s FY 2022-23 figure that includes renewable energy. The 1 MW example would produce about 9,408 tonnes of CO2 annually from electricity use, unless the operator matches or replaces grid power with cleaner energy.

What changes at 10 MW, 50 MW, and 100 MW

The same formula scales quickly. The table below assumes the same 1.50 PUE, Rs. 8 per kWh electricity cost, 1.8 litres per kWh water estimate, and 0.716 kg CO2 per kWh grid factor.

Larger data centers may achieve better PUE because they can invest in efficient cooling and power systems. Still, better efficiency does not automatically mean lower total consumption. A huge, efficient facility can use more electricity overall than a smaller, less efficient one.

Are data centers a threat to the environment

They can be, especially when rapid construction depends on coal-heavy electricity, scarce water, or poorly planned land use.

Electricity is the biggest concern. The International Energy Agency estimates that data centers used around 415 TWh globally in 2024, or about 1.5 percent of worldwide electricity demand. If that electricity comes from fossil fuels, emissions rise.

Water is another local issue. A data center may be manageable in a water-rich area but controversial in a drought-prone district. The choice between water-saving cooling and energy-saving cooling can involve difficult trade-offs.

Land use also matters. A large campus can replace open land, affect drainage, add noise from generators and cooling equipment, and disturb nearby biodiversity if site selection is weak. Then there is electronic waste. Servers, batteries, networking equipment, and cooling parts must be repaired, reused, refurbished, or recycled responsibly instead of being discarded early.

Local power supply can become strained when several large facilities seek grid connections in the same area. This can require new substations, transmission lines, and generation capacity.

Why data centers still matter

Data centers support digital payments, emergency services, research, cloud software, online education, connected vehicles, manufacturing systems, and startups that cannot afford to build their own IT infrastructure. The answer is not to stop building them. It is to build and operate them more carefully.

Renewable power purchase agreements, on-site solar where practical, wind power, battery storage, waste-heat reuse, efficient chips, server virtualization, better software, and direct liquid cooling can reduce the impact. Operators can also use reclaimed water, select water-stable locations, extend hardware life, and publish clear data on electricity, water, and emissions.

Key takeaways

Data centers are essential digital infrastructure, but they are resource-intensive physical facilities.

A 1 MW IT data center operating at a PUE of 1.50 uses about 13.14 GWh of electricity each year. At Rs. 8 per kWh, that is roughly Rs. 10.51 crore in annual electricity cost.

As capacity rises from 1 MW to 100 MW, electricity use, water demand, operating costs, and emissions grow enormously. Efficient design helps, but clean electricity, responsible water planning, durable hardware, and transparent reporting matter just as much.

Disclaimer

The calculations in this article are illustrative estimates based on stated assumptions for PUE, electricity tariffs, grid emission factors, and water use. Actual data-center costs, power consumption, water needs, server capacity, and carbon emissions can vary by location, climate, hardware, cooling design, workload, electricity source, and local regulations. Readers should obtain site-specific technical, financial, and environmental assessments before making business, investment, or infrastructure decisions.

Indian startup funding is no longer limited to apps, fintech and food delivery. The latest funding updates show money flowing into defence manufacturing, healthcare delivery, clean energy hardware and preventive wellness.

Hughes Precision Manufacturing, Rio Health, Eapro Global and Betterhood are very different businesses, but their fundraising tells a common story. Investors are backing companies that solve real-world problems, from faster medicine delivery to local ammunition production and better pain care.

Hughes Precision Manufacturing – Building defence manufacturing capacity

Hughes Precision Manufacturing has raised more than Rs. 250 crore to expand its ammunition manufacturing business. The company was incorporated in 2016 and is focused on small-caliber ammunition for defence, law enforcement and approved global customers.

Its latest funding will mainly support capacity expansion. As per the company announcement, Hughes plans to increase small-caliber ammunition capacity from about 80 million rounds to 220 million rounds. It also wants to enter medium-caliber ammunition manufacturing.

The company is led by Managing Director Sanjay Soni.

The aim is simple but important. India wants stronger local defence production, and Hughes wants to become a serious private-sector player in that space. Its competitors and peers include public-sector defence manufacturers and private defence firms such as Munitions India, Solar Industries and other ammunition suppliers.

Rio Health – Fast medicine delivery through WhatsApp

Rio Health has raised Rs. 43.08 crore in a pre-Series A round led by Version One Ventures. Existing investors Xeed Ventures, Good Capital and Amplify Partner also joined the round.

Founded by Ankur Agrawal and Amit Ahuja, Rio Health is building a quick-commerce platform for medicines and healthcare essentials.

The company lets customers order through WhatsApp and aims to deliver medicines and healthcare products in around 15 to 30 minutes. Its operating entity, Rapidsurge Innovations Private Limited, was incorporated in 2023.

The fresh money will be used for working capital, capital expenditure, business expansion and strengthening the company’s capital base.

Rio is entering a crowded but useful market. Competitors include Tata 1mg, Apollo 24/7, PharmEasy, Netmeds and local pharmacy delivery services. Its WhatsApp-first approach may help customers who do not want to download another app.

Eapro Global – Power backup and clean energy growth

Eapro Global has raised Rs. 40 crore in pre-IPO funding. The Roorkee-based company makes solar inverters, batteries and energy storage systems.

It was founded in 2012 by Jagdeep Chauhan, who is also its Founder and Managing Director.

The funding round included Aarth AIF Growth Fund, NAV Bharat Investment Opportunities Fund, VentureX Fund, Kyro India Opportunities Fund – I and the JK family office. The company is reportedly preparing for a possible FY28 IPO.

Eapro plans to use the funds to expand manufacturing capacity, improve technology and grow in India’s clean energy and power-backup market. This is practical money for a practical business. Homes, shops and factories need reliable power, and solar-plus-storage products are becoming more relevant as energy demand rises.

Its competitors include Luminous, Microtek, Livguard, Exide and other inverter, battery and solar equipment companies.

Betterhood – Preventing pain before it becomes serious

Betterhood has raised Rs. 11.5 crore in a seed round led by Sauce, with participation from existing investor Kairon Capital.

The brand was founded by Vikram Kadam and Neha Zade and launched in October 2024.

Betterhood focuses on preventive pain care. Its products cover posture support, back support, knee and wrist support, recovery products and other musculoskeletal health needs. In simple words, it wants people to take care of body pain early instead of waiting until it becomes a bigger daily problem.

As per ET, the startup had earlier raised Rs. 5 crore led by Kairon Capital. That money was meant for product development, team expansion and wider online and offline distribution.

Betterhood competes with brands such as Tynor, Vissco and other pain care, posture and wellness product companies. Its edge may come from combining products with education and physiotherapist-led awareness.

Conclusion with key takeaways

These four funding rounds show how broad India’s startup and growth-company market has become.

Hughes Precision is scaling defence manufacturing. Rio Health wants to make medicine delivery faster and simpler. Eapro Global is preparing for clean energy and power-backup demand. Betterhood is trying to build a new habit around early pain care.

For beginners tracking startup funding, the main lesson is clear. Investors are not just chasing flashy ideas. They are looking at capacity, trust, distribution, repeat demand and real customer problems.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi used his Independence Day 2026 speech from the Red Fort to put startups, young entrepreneurs and innovation at the centre of India’s growth story. According to an India Today report published on August 15, 2026, the Prime Minister announced a Rs. 1 lakh crore innovation fund to support young people with ideas and help them turn those ideas into businesses.

The announcement is important because startup funding in India is no longer only about food delivery apps, fintech products or quick consumer platforms. The next phase is expected to be more about deep technology, manufacturing, artificial intelligence, clean energy, semiconductors, biotech, space and advanced research.

For founders, the message is simple. If India wants to build world-class technology at home, promising ideas will need longer-term financial support. That is exactly where the Rs. 1 lakh crore innovation fund fits in.

What PM Modi announced

During his Independence Day address on August 15, 2026, PM Modi said the government had created a Rs. 1 lakh crore mechanism to support ideas, innovation and capability. The larger message was aimed at young entrepreneurs who may have strong ideas but lack the capital to develop them.

India Today reported that the announcement was part of a broader youth-focused push. The Prime Minister also spoke about AI training for one crore young people, free online coaching for competitive exam aspirants, and opportunities linked to Digital India, Skill India, the drone sector and the opening up of space.

This is why the fund should not be seen as a standalone headline. It sits inside a wider policy direction where the government wants Indian youth to build, research, manufacture and create jobs.

Is this a new fund or linked to the RDI Fund

The announcement is closely linked to the government’s Research, Development and Innovation Fund, commonly called the RDI Fund. Official records show that the Union Cabinet approved the Rs. 1 lakh crore RDI Scheme on July 1, 2025. It was formally launched by the Prime Minister on November 3, 2025.

So, the Independence Day 2026 announcement should be understood as a strong public push for the same innovation financing framework, especially for startups and young entrepreneurs.

The RDI Fund is planned over six years. It is designed to support private sector research, deep-tech startups and companies working on high-impact technologies. The fund is not meant only for small grants. It is meant to provide long-term capital for difficult technologies that may take years to become commercially ready.

Why this matters for Indian startups

Most startups need money. But deep-tech startups need a different kind of money.

A regular consumer startup may be able to launch a product, test it with users, change features quickly and show early revenue. A deep-tech startup works differently. It may need a lab, testing equipment, researchers, patents, safety approvals, pilots with large companies and manufacturing partners.

Take an electric vehicle battery startup as an example. It cannot simply build an app and launch it in a few weeks. It has to test battery chemistry, safety, charging performance, lifecycle, heat management and cost. That takes time and patient funding.

The same is true for startups building medical devices, drones, robotics, semiconductor tools, clean energy equipment or space technology. These areas are expensive, but they can also create serious long-term value for the country.

That is why the PM Modi Rs. 1 lakh crore innovation fund could matter. It can reduce the funding gap between an early idea and a product that is ready for the market.

Which sectors can benefit

The official RDI Fund framework focuses on sunrise and strategic sectors. These include artificial intelligence, quantum computing, robotics, space technology, biotechnology, biomanufacturing, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, energy transition, climate action and the digital economy.

AI in agriculture, health and education is also part of the focus area. This is important because India has many large public problems where technology can make a difference.

For example, an AI tool that helps farmers detect crop disease early can improve income and reduce waste. A low-cost medical device can help smaller hospitals. A robotics startup can support factories. A clean energy startup can help industries reduce fuel costs.

The automobile sector may also benefit indirectly. EV batteries, charging systems, vehicle electronics, lightweight materials and hydrogen technology all need research-led innovation. If the funding reaches strong companies in these areas, it can support India’s manufacturing ambitions.

How the process may work

The Rs. 1 lakh crore innovation fund is not expected to work like a simple online cash scheme where any founder can directly claim money.

As per official RDI Fund details, the structure works through the Anusandhan National Research Foundation, or ANRF. The Department of Science and Technology is the nodal ministry for implementation.

The fund uses a two-level model. Money is first routed to approved Second-Level Fund Managers, called SLFMs. These fund managers then support eligible startups, companies and research-led projects.

The Technology Development Board and the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council have already been approved as SLFMs. In simple language, TDB may support wider technology commercialization, while BIRAC is more focused on biotechnology and life sciences.

This means founders should not only watch government announcements. They should track official calls from TDB, BIRAC, ANRF and future approved fund managers.

What founders should prepare

A startup that wants to apply should first check whether its product has a strong research or technology component. The fund is more suitable for serious innovation than for ordinary trading, resale, content or basic service businesses.

Founders should prepare a clear problem statement. They should explain what they are building, why it is different, what stage the technology has reached and how it can become commercially useful.

They should also keep technical proof ready. This may include prototypes, lab results, pilot data, patent filings, customer letters, testing reports or partnerships with research institutions.

Financial planning will be equally important. A founder should be able to explain how much funding is needed, where the money will go, what milestones will be achieved and how the company plans to earn revenue later.

A practical example would be a startup building an Indian-made medical sensor. A strong application would not only say “we are building a sensor”. It would show test results, target hospitals, expected price, regulatory path, manufacturing plan and why the product is better or cheaper than existing options.

Latest implementation status

The RDI Fund has already started moving from announcement to execution. A PIB update from July 2026 said TDB and BIRAC had each been sanctioned Rs. 1,000 crore under the RDI Fund.

The same update said Rs. 500 crore was disbursed to TDB in March 2026 for investment in eligible technology entities. TDB had approved 22 projects with total project cost of Rs. 4,744 crore, including RDI Fund support of Rs. 2,192 crore. BIRAC had shortlisted eight projects involving support of Rs. 390.35 crore.

This is a useful detail because it shows that the fund is not just a speech point. The funding machinery has started, though founders still need to follow formal calls and eligibility rules.

Conclusion with key takeaways

PM Modi’s Rs. 1 lakh crore innovation fund announcement on Independence Day 2026 gives India’s startup ecosystem a strong policy signal. The government wants more young entrepreneurs to build serious technology, not just quick digital products.

Why Deeptech Founders Should Watch It?

Inflexor Ventures has announced the first close of its third fund at Rs. 400 crore. The fund, called Inflexor Technology Discovery Fund, has a total target size of Rs. 1,250 crore.

For India’s startup market, this is an important update because Inflexor is not chasing short-term app trends. The firm is known for backing science, engineering and technology-led companies. These are startups that may take longer to build, but can create strong intellectual property and global products if they work.

The fund is backed by investors such as the Self-Reliant India Fund, HDFC AMC, HDFC AMC Select AIF FoF and international institutions. With the first close done, Inflexor has already started looking at new investments and is expected to announce its first deals from this fund soon.

What Inflexor Ventures does

Inflexor Ventures is a technology-focused venture capital firm. It invests in early-stage startups, mainly from seed to Series A and beyond.

The firm was incorporated in 2019 and is led by Venkat Vallabhaneni and Jatin Desai, Pratip Mazumdar is also part of the leadership team as co-founder and partner.

Inflexor’s investment style is built around what it calls science, engineering and technology. In simple words, it looks for startups that are not only using technology, but building technology of their own.

This can include companies in deeptech, healthtech, spacetech, cybersecurity, clean energy, enterprise software, digital infrastructure, robotics, semiconductors and other specialized areas.

What first close means

A first close means the fund has received enough commitments from investors to start deploying money. It is not the final fund size.

In this case, Inflexor has closed Rs. 400 crore as the first part of its Rs. 1,250 crore target. The firm can now start investing from Fund III while continuing to raise the remaining amount.

Think of it like building a large pool of capital in stages. Once the first stage is complete, the fund does not need to wait for the full amount before backing startups.

Aim and purpose of Fund III

The main aim of Inflexor Ventures Fund III is to back Indian startups building strong technology products with global potential.

The fund will mainly invest in pre-Series A and Series A startups. Its cheque size is expected to range from Rs. 15 crore to Rs. 45 crore per company.

This is useful for deeptech founders because their capital needs are often higher than normal software startups. A company building a space component, medical device, robotics system or semiconductor tool cannot grow only with laptops and cloud subscriptions. It needs labs, testing, hardware, patents, talent and long product cycles.

Inflexor’s purpose is to provide not only money, but also long-term support. Deeptech companies need patient investors because revenue and scale can take time. A product may need years of research, pilot projects and industry approvals before it becomes commercially strong.

Why this fund matters now

India’s startup funding market has become more careful in recent years. Investors are asking tougher questions about revenue, margins, technology depth and customer demand.

That shift is helping serious technology startups. Earlier, consumer internet companies often got most of the attention. Now investors are looking more closely at companies that build hard-to-copy products.

This is where Fund III becomes relevant.

India is seeing more founders work in areas like spacetech, defence tech, clean energy, climate technology, industrial automation, AI infrastructure and enterprise security. These sectors need larger early cheques and deeper guidance.

For example, a drone navigation startup may need money for sensor testing, field trials and certifications. A biotech startup may need research validation and manufacturing partnerships. A cybersecurity company may need enterprise pilots before large customers sign contracts.

A fund like Inflexor III is designed for this kind of journey.

What kind of startups may benefit

Fund III is likely to benefit startups that have moved beyond just an idea and are ready to scale early customer traction.

A pure concept may not be enough. Inflexor has usually preferred companies with strong technology, a serious team and early proof that customers care.

The fund may look at startups in sectors such as healthcare technology, financial services, logistics, cybersecurity, spacetech, clean energy, semiconductors and industrial technology.

These sectors have one thing in common. They solve real problems and can build strong entry barriers if the technology works.

For a founder, this means the fund is not just looking for a trendy pitch. It is likely to ask whether the technology is defensible, whether the market is large, and whether the team can sell to serious customers.

Inflexor’s earlier portfolio

Inflexor has backed companies such as Atomberg, Bellatrix Aerospace, CloudSEK, Entropik, BioPrime, Chakr Innovation, PlayShifu, ClickPost and GramCover, among others.

These names show the firm’s broader technology focus. Atomberg built energy-efficient consumer appliances. Bellatrix works in spacetech. CloudSEK operates in cybersecurity. BioPrime works in sustainable agriculture technology.

This gives a hint of what Fund III may continue doing. It may not limit itself to one sector, but it will likely look for technology-led companies where innovation is central to the business.

Competitors and peer funds

Inflexor is not alone in this space. India now has several funds backing deeptech, enterprise software and technology-heavy startups.

Peer names include Exfinity Venture Partners, Speciale Invest, Pi Ventures, Ideaspring Capital, Blume Ventures, Peak XV Partners, 8X Ventures and deeptech-focused arms of larger funds.

There are also government-backed or institution-led initiatives supporting deeptech and strategic sectors. The Self-Reliant India Fund’s participation in Inflexor Fund III also reflects this broader push to support domestic innovation.

The competition is good for founders. More deeptech-focused capital means more options, better sector understanding and less pressure to fit into a consumer-app style growth story.

What this means for Indian deeptech

The first close of Inflexor Ventures Fund III sends a positive signal to India’s deeptech ecosystem.

It shows that investors are willing to back companies that may take longer to mature but can create stronger technology value. This is important because India cannot become a global technology hub only by building marketplaces and apps. It also needs companies that build core products, hardware, software infrastructure, scientific platforms and intellectual property.

For founders, the message is clear. If the product solves a real problem, has technical depth and can scale globally, capital is available.

Conclusion with key takeaways

Inflexor Ventures Fund III’s Rs. 400 crore first close is a meaningful development for India’s startup funding market. The fund is aimed at early-stage technology companies, especially those building science and engineering-led products.

Its purpose is to support deeptech founders with patient capital, larger early cheques and strategic guidance. As India’s startup ecosystem becomes more mature, funds like this can play an important role in helping serious technology companies move from lab to market.

Key takeaways

Inflexor Ventures announced the first close of Fund III at Rs. 400 crore.

The total target size of the fund is Rs. 1,250 crore.

The fund will mainly invest in pre-Series A and Series A startups.

Expected cheque size is Rs. 15 crore to Rs. 45 crore.

Inflexor focuses on science, engineering and technology-led companies.

The firm was incorporated in 2019 and is led by Venkat Vallabhaneni, Jatin Desai and Pratip Mazumdar.

Indian startup funding between June 29 and July 24, 2026, had an interesting mix of large growth rounds, selective early-stage bets and strong action in AI, EVs, enterprise software, healthtech, spacetech and consumer brands.

The period did not move in a straight line. Some days were packed with deals, while others were quiet. But one thing was clear. Investors were not writing cheques randomly. They were backing companies with sharper use cases, better revenue visibility, strong founders or clear IPO plans.

This India startup funding update June 29 to July 24, 2026, brings together the key funding deals, investors and founders to watch from publicly reported updates during this window.

Funding mood during the period

The last days of June opened strongly. On June 29, Incuspaze raised Rs. 150 crore, Rusk Media raised Rs. 100 crore, Mykare closed seed funding at $3.2 million, and smaller rounds went to The Func. Lab, Lytmus AI, The Capitalist Ventures and Clairva.

June 30 continued with consumer and SaaS activity. The Indus Valley raised $17 million led by Gaja Capital, Kapture CX raised $10 million from Bajaj Finserv Ventures, and YoLearn.ai raised $500,000 in pre-seed funding.

July started with bigger consumer and manufacturing-linked deals. Limelight Diamonds raised Rs. 275 crore on July 1, while Celloraa Energy received Rs. 160 crore from StarlinePS Enterprises for a solar cell plant. Dovetail Capital, Supply6, Data Science Wizards and Spense also raised funding the same day.

After that, July became uneven. According to Inc42, Indian startups raised $71.9 million across 17 deals between July 4 and July 10, down from $104.6 million in the previous week. Then the third week bounced back sharply, with reports saying startups raised around $281.4 million across 24 deals between July 11 and July 17. The fourth week, July 18 to July 24, cooled again to around $209.1 million across 14 deals.

Biggest deals to know

Ather Energy was one of the biggest names in this period. The electric two-wheeler maker raised Rs. 1,300 crore through a QIP on July 21, after earlier funding activity around a preferential issue. This money is important because EV manufacturing needs heavy spending on factories, R&D, batteries, marketing and working capital.

BusinessNext raised $40 million in Series C from ServiceNow Ventures at a reported $700 million valuation. The company builds banking software and private AI tools for financial institutions. This was one of the strongest enterprise SaaS stories of the period.

Emergent became one of the biggest AI funding stories, raising $130 million in Series C at a $1.5 billion valuation. The company works on AI software creation, and its round showed that investors are still willing to fund serious AI companies when the product has strong demand.

Raghu Vamsi Aerospace Group raised $40 million in Series B, co-led by Norwest and Skegen Asset Management. This deal showed investor interest in aerospace manufacturing and defence-linked deeptech.

SolarSquare also stood out with its $53 million Series C round. The residential rooftop solar startup has become an important clean energy company to watch, especially as Indian households look for lower electricity bills and cleaner power.

Daily deal snapshot

June 29 – Incuspaze, Rusk Media, Mykare, The Func. Lab, Lytmus AI, The Capitalist Ventures and Clairva raised funds.

June 30 – The Indus Valley, Kapture CX and YoLearn.ai closed funding rounds.

July 1 – Limelight Diamonds, Celloraa Energy, Dovetail Capital, Supply6, Data Science Wizards and Spense were among the major updates.

July 2 – BatX Energies raised Rs. 105 crore, Age Care Labs raised Rs. 85 crore, and Tulon Materials raised Rs. 10 crore.

July 3 – CUNIN raised $450,000 in a quiet funding day.

July 6 – TOCAL raised Rs. 9 crore in seed funding.

July 7 – Econovus Packaging raised Rs. 40 crore, Mowito raised $3 million, and Fizzy Goblet received investment from Kareena Kapoor Khan.

July 9 – Wheelocity raised Rs. 82 crore, while BAAS Technologies raised Rs. 5 crore in pre-seed funding.

July 10 – Purple Style Labs raised Rs. 162.5 crore debt, and Aukera raised Rs. 90 crore.

July 13 – Dhruva Space raised Rs. 60 crore from Antariksh Venture Capital Fund.

July 14 – BUILT raised $2 million in pre-seed funding.

July 15 – Ather Energy, Emergent and E3 Electric.Ai were among the headline names.

July 16 – Naturis Cosmetics raised Rs. 100 crore, Vorflux raised $15 million, and NapTapGo raised Rs. 8 crore.

July 17 – Neo Group raised Rs. 350 crore led by Peak XV Partners.

July 20 – Raghu Vamsi Aerospace raised $40 million, Plazza raised $15 million, and LNGVTY raised Rs. 5 crore.

July 21 – Ather Energy, SolarSquare, 30 Sundays, Suminter India Organics, FireAI and Khageshvara Aviation Technology were in the funding news.

July 22 – Bioscan Research raised $1 million in seed funding led by Unicorn India Ventures.

July 23 – BusinessNext, CARPL.ai, Farm Watt Innovations, Wiffy, NeuralKart and UpKraft raised funds.

July 24 – Sortmyprep funding round was reported in as daily update.

Founders to watch

Sanjay Choudhary and Sanjay Chatrath of Incuspaze are worth watching as managed office demand keeps rising in India.

Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain of Ather Energy remain key names in India’s EV story, especially as the company prepares for higher manufacturing needs.

Shreya Mishra and Nikhil Nahar of SolarSquare are building in rooftop solar, a category that can grow as power costs and clean energy awareness rise.

Vidur Mahajan of CARPL.ai is building in medical imaging AI, a space where hospitals need practical tools, not just fancy dashboards.

Anupam Lavania and Shilpa Malik of Bioscan Research are working on CEREBO, a medical device for non-invasive brain injury screening.

Manoj Raju, Shreyas R. Halageri and Vidvath Kamireddy of NeuralKart are building AI products for insurance and industrial safety.

Why investors are backing these sectors

AI was the loudest theme, but not every AI startup got easy money. Investors seemed more interested in practical AI, such as banking automation, medical imaging, tutoring, customer support, software creation and decision intelligence.

Clean energy also stayed hot. SolarSquare, Celloraa Energy, BatX Energies, Farm Watt Innovations and Suminter India Organics show that investors are still betting on energy transition, recycling, biomass and solar supply chains.

Enterprise software saw strong interest through BusinessNext, Kapture CX, Data Science Wizards, CARPL.ai and Wiffy. These companies sell to businesses, hospitals or banks, where revenue can be more predictable than consumer apps.

Consumer brands did not disappear either. Limelight Diamonds, Supply6, The Indus Valley, The Func. Lab, Naturis, BUILT, Aukera and LNGVTY show that investors still like brands with sharp positioning and clear customers.

Conclusion with key takeaways

The India startup funding update June 29 to July 24, 2026, shows a market that is active but careful. Big rounds went to companies with stronger business models, while early-stage funding stayed selective.

Key takeaways

Ather Energy, Emergent, SolarSquare, BusinessNext, Raghu Vamsi Aerospace, Neo Group and Limelight Diamonds were among the biggest funding names.

AI, enterprise SaaS, EVs, clean energy, healthtech, spacetech and consumer brands saw strong investor interest.

Early-stage funding continued, but investors were choosy.

The IPO pipeline also remained active, with companies like OYO parent PRISM, Fibe, Cult.fit, InMobi and others making public-market moves.

The overall message is simple. Indian startup funding is not slow. It is becoming more disciplined.

MS Dhoni has made a new startup investment, and this time the bet is on rooftop solar. The former Indian cricket captain has invested in SolarSquare through his family office, Midas Deals, as part of the company’s $53 million Series C funding round.

Along with the investment, Dhoni will also join SolarSquare as its brand ambassador. That makes the deal more than a normal funding update. SolarSquare gets both capital and a trusted public face at a time when many Indian households are thinking about reducing electricity bills through rooftop solar.

For beginners, SolarSquare is not a solar panel maker in the usual sense. It is a residential rooftop solar company that helps homeowners and housing societies install solar systems from start to finish.

What SolarSquare does

SolarSquare works in the home solar space. Its main job is to make rooftop solar easier for families, apartment societies and homeowners.

A typical customer may not know which solar panel to buy, how much roof area is needed, how subsidies work, or who will maintain the system later. SolarSquare tries to handle this full journey.

The company offers consultation, site inspection, system design, installation, financing support, monitoring and after-sales service. In simple words, it tries to act like a one-stop platform for people who want solar power at home but do not want to manage ten different vendors.

For example, if a family in Pune has a high monthly electricity bill, SolarSquare can check the roof, estimate the right solar capacity, explain the expected savings, help with financing and install the system. After installation, the company also provides service and monitoring support.

Who founded SolarSquare and when

SolarSquare was founded in 2015 by Neeraj Jain, Shreya Mishra and Nikhil Nahar.

The company started in the solar energy space and later became strongly focused on residential rooftop solar. Shreya Mishra is the co-founder and CEO of the company.

Over the years, SolarSquare has positioned itself as one of India’s major residential rooftop solar players. Reports say the company has installed systems in more than 50,000 homes across 29 Indian cities.

MS Dhoni’s role in the funding round

MS Dhoni has invested through his family office, Midas Deals. The exact amount invested by him has not been publicly disclosed.

His role is also important from a brand point of view. Dhoni will become SolarSquare’s brand ambassador, which can help the startup build trust among regular Indian households.

That trust part matters. Rooftop solar is not an impulse purchase. A family may spend a large amount upfront and expect the system to work for many years. When a familiar name like Dhoni supports the brand, it can make more people curious about the category.

Still, customers should judge the product on practical points like pricing, warranty, service quality, subsidy support and real savings, not only celebrity backing.

About SolarSquare’s $53 million Series C round

SolarSquare raised $53 million in its Series C funding round in June 2026. The round was led by B Capital.

Existing investors such as Lightspeed, Elevation Capital, Lowercarbon Capital, Rainmatter by Zerodha and Good Capital also took part in the round. Reports say the company’s total capital raised has now crossed $100 million.

The funding is important because residential solar is a business where companies need money for expansion, technology, operations, customer service and working capital. Unlike a pure software startup, rooftop solar involves people on the ground, installation teams, equipment, logistics and long-term support.

How the funding will be used

SolarSquare plans to use the fresh money for city expansion, technology improvement, hiring and scaling operations.

The company is expected to expand into 30 to 40 more cities. This can help it reach customers beyond large metro markets.

A part of the money will also go into strengthening its technology platform. This may include better tools for system design, monitoring, customer support, sales operations and asset management.

The company also wants to improve financing options for homeowners. This is a key area because rooftop solar can reduce electricity bills over time, but the upfront cost can still feel heavy for many families.

SolarSquare has also spoken about building a wider home-energy platform. That could include solar installations, maintenance, battery solutions, financing and home energy management.

Why rooftop solar is becoming popular in India

Rooftop solar is gaining attention because electricity bills are rising in many cities, and households are looking for long-term savings.

Government support has also helped. India has been pushing rooftop solar through subsidy schemes and clean energy targets. For many homeowners, the idea is simple. Pay once, use sunlight to generate electricity, and reduce dependence on grid power.

India also has a large opportunity in this market. SolarSquare has said that around 70 million homes in India are suitable for rooftop solar, while adoption is still low compared with countries such as Australia and Germany.

That means the market is still early. If installation quality improves and financing becomes easier, more Indian homes may consider solar over the next few years.

Competitors in the rooftop solar space

SolarSquare is not alone in this market. India has several companies working in rooftop solar and clean energy services.

Tata Power Solar is a major name because of its strong brand and large energy background. Loom Solar is known for selling solar panels, inverters and rooftop solutions. Freyr Energy also works in residential and commercial rooftop solar. Other regional EPC players compete in different cities.

EPC means engineering, procurement and construction. In simple English, these companies design, source equipment and install solar systems.

SolarSquare’s advantage is its strong focus on residential customers and its full-stack model. But competition will become sharper as rooftop solar becomes more mainstream.

What customers should check before choosing rooftop solar

A homeowner should not buy rooftop solar only because of advertisements or discounts.

First, check your monthly electricity bill. Rooftop solar makes more sense if your power usage is steady and your bill is high enough to justify the investment.

Second, check roof space and sunlight. If your roof is shaded by nearby buildings or trees for most of the day, output may be lower.

Third, compare warranty, panel quality, inverter brand and service promises. A cheaper system may not always be better if support is weak.

Fourth, ask for a clear savings estimate. The company should explain how much power the system may generate, how long the payback period may be, and what happens during maintenance issues.

Conclusion with key takeaways

MS Dhoni’s investment in SolarSquare brings fresh attention to India’s residential rooftop solar market. But the bigger story is not just Dhoni’s name. It is the growing belief that home solar can become a large consumer category in India.

Key takeaways

Transition VC has launched its second fund with a target corpus of Rs. 1,500 crore, and the timing is interesting. India is no longer talking about clean energy as a distant goal. Solar, batteries, electric mobility, green hydrogen, power electronics, and industrial efficiency are now becoming serious business areas.

For a beginner, the news may sound like just another venture capital fund announcement. But this one matters because energy transition startups often need more than a laptop, a small team, and quick software testing. Many of them build real hardware, work with factories, test products in harsh conditions, and take longer to reach the market.

That is where Transition VC Fund II is trying to play a role. The fund aims to support companies that can help India move toward cleaner, more secure, and more efficient energy systems.

What Transition VC does

Transition VC is a Bengaluru-based venture capital firm focused on energy transition. The firm was founded in 2022 by Mohammed Shoeb Ali and Raiyaan Shingati. Its official website describes it as India’s first energy-transition-focused venture capital fund.

The fund backs engineering-led startups working in areas such as energy storage, electric mobility, industrial decarbonization, alternate fuels, and related manufacturing technologies.

In simple words, Transition VC is not mainly looking for the next food delivery app or social media platform. It is looking for startups that can solve hard energy problems. These may include better batteries, cleaner industrial systems, EV components, energy management tools, or technologies that help factories cut fuel and power waste.

What is Fund II and how big is it

Transition VC’s Fund II is targeting Rs. 1,500 crore. Reports say the fund may back around 20 engineering-focused startups and deploy capital over about four years, beginning around Q3 FY27.

This comes after its first fund, which was reported to have closed at around Rs. 723 crore. That first fund backed startups across energy storage, mobility, industrial decarbonization, and alternative fuels.

The larger second fund suggests that Transition VC wants to write bigger cheques, support more companies after the first investment, and help startups move from pilot projects to commercial scale.

Why this fund is being launched now

India’s energy needs are growing fast. More homes, factories, data centres, EVs, and cooling systems will need reliable power. At the same time, India has committed to a cleaner energy path. Government data shows India reached 50 percent non-fossil fuel installed power capacity in 2025, ahead of its 2030 target.

But installed renewable capacity is only one part of the story. A cleaner grid also needs storage, smarter equipment, better transmission systems, efficient motors, EV charging, demand forecasting, and cleaner industrial processes.

This is the gap where startups can help.

For example, solar power is useful during the day, but factories and homes also need electricity at night. That creates demand for battery storage and energy management. EV adoption needs better batteries, chargers, battery safety systems, and recycling. Heavy industries need cleaner heat, better process control, and lower-emission fuels.

These are not easy problems. They need patient capital. Transition VC Fund II is meant to support these kinds of companies.

The main purpose of the fund

The purpose of Transition VC Fund II is to back startups that are past the idea stage but still need capital, customers, and technical support to grow.

Many energy startups fall into what investors call the “missing middle”. In plain English, this means they have built something promising, maybe tested it with early customers, but are not yet large enough for big infrastructure investors or public markets.

A battery startup may have a working prototype but need money for certifications, manufacturing, and customer trials. A green cooling startup may have a better industrial system but need help selling to large factories. A power electronics company may have strong technology but need capital to build production capacity.

Transition VC wants to support such companies before they become obvious winners.

What kind of startups can benefit

Fund II is expected to focus on engineering-heavy companies. These are startups where the real value comes from deep product development, manufacturing knowledge, science, and field performance.

A few likely areas include energy storage, EV supply chain, industrial efficiency, green hydrogen, alternate fuels, advanced manufacturing, battery infrastructure, power electronics, and possibly newer areas such as geothermal or nuclear-related technologies, where allowed and commercially practical.

The fund’s official portfolio already includes companies such as Dynolt, Emo Energy, Hydgen, Promethean Energy, GreenFi, Matel Motion, WorkOnGrid, and others. These names show that the firm is interested in the less glamorous but very important parts of the energy system.

Why it matters for India

For India, this fund is about more than climate. It is also about energy security and industrial strength.

India imports a large part of its crude oil needs. It also needs to reduce pollution, build local manufacturing, and create new jobs. If Indian startups can build better batteries, cleaner fuels, efficient motors, and smart energy systems locally, the benefits can go beyond carbon reduction.

It can also reduce import dependence, create export opportunities, and help Indian factories become more competitive.

There is another practical point. Energy transition is not only about replacing petrol cars with EVs. It is also about making steel, cement, chemicals, logistics, agriculture, cold storage, and buildings more efficient. That is a huge market, and it will need many specialized companies.

Competitors and similar investors

Transition VC is not alone in this space. India now has several climate and deep-tech investors looking at similar opportunities, though each has its own focus.

Avaana Capital is one of the better-known climate-tech investors in India. Its climate and sustainability fund focuses on energy and resource management, mobility and supply chains, and sustainable agriculture and food systems.

Omnivore is another important investor, with a strong focus on agritech, food systems, climate, and rural transformation. It backs companies working in farm productivity, supply chains, and sustainability.

Micelio is more focused on electric mobility, while Speciale Invest often backs deep-tech and engineering-led startups, including space, manufacturing, and advanced technology companies.

The difference with Transition VC is its sharp focus on energy transition and engineering-led businesses. That makes it a specialist investor rather than a broad startup fund.

Challenges ahead

The opportunity is big, but the road will not be simple.

Energy and hardware startups usually take longer to build. They need factories, components, testing, certifications, and large customers. Sales cycles can be slow because industrial buyers do not change equipment overnight.

There is also the risk of policy changes, raw material price swings, and global competition from China, Europe, and the US. A startup may have good technology, but it still has to prove reliability, cost advantage, and after-sales support.

This is why Fund II’s success will depend not only on picking smart founders, but also on helping them scale carefully.

Conclusion with key takeaways

Transition VC’s Rs. 1,500 crore Fund II shows that India’s clean energy startup market is becoming more serious. The fund is not just chasing climate buzz. It is targeting companies that can build real technology for India’s next energy chapter.

Singapore-based climate venture builder 100×100 has launched its second fund with a target corpus of $100 million. The fund, called Fund II, aims to create and scale 50 climate-focused companies across India and Southeast Asia.

This is a notable update for the climate startup market because 100×100 is not following the usual venture capital playbook. Instead of only investing in existing startups, it wants to build new companies from the ground up.

That difference matters. Climate startups often need more than money. They need sector knowledge, technical planning, industrial partners, early customers and patient execution. 100×100 wants to bring those pieces together and build companies that can become both commercially strong and climate-relevant.

What 100×100 is planning

According to DealStreetAsia, 100×100’s new fund will focus on creating companies across agriculture, energy, industry, materials and buildings. These are sectors where emissions are high and where practical solutions can have a large impact. The firm was earlier known as Wavemaker Impact and later rebranded as 100×100 to operate as an independent fund manager. Its first fund had a size of $60 million and closed in 2023.

The first fund has already co-founded 27 companies across eight Asian countries. These companies have together raised more than $28 million from external investors, according to the report.

Why the name 100×100 matters

The name 100×100 reflects the firm’s ambition. It wants to build companies that can each reduce or avoid 100 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent and also reach $100 million in annual revenue. That is a bold target, but it explains the model clearly. The firm is not just looking for green ideas. It wants climate companies that can become large businesses.

This approach is important because climate impact and business strength need to move together. A product that helps the planet but cannot make money will struggle to survive. A business that grows fast but does not reduce emissions will not solve the climate problem. 100×100 is trying to find the middle path.

Founder and partner details

100×100’s six-partner investment team includes Guillem Segarra, Marie Cheong, Paul Lam Wai, Quentin Vaquette, Steve Melhuish and Subhadeep Sanyal.

The firm was established by members of the team behind climate investment platform Wavemaker Impact. In the article, founding partner Marie Cheong said that solving major emissions problems also represents a major economic opportunity.

This is the core idea behind climate venture building. The climate challenge is huge, but so is the business opportunity for companies that can solve real problems at scale.

Why India and Southeast Asia are key markets

India and Southeast Asia are natural markets for a climate venture builder. Both regions are growing fast, and that growth creates energy demand, construction demand, food demand and transport demand.

At the same time, these regions face climate pressure. Heatwaves, air pollution, water stress, waste problems and changing farming conditions are already visible. That creates space for practical climate companies. A startup that helps factories save energy can reduce bills and emissions. A company that helps rice farmers reduce methane can support both agriculture and climate goals. A solar company that makes rooftop power easier can help homes and businesses cut electricity costs.

This is why 100×100’s focus is not limited to one sector. Climate problems are spread across the economy, so the fund’s scope is also wide.

Examples from the first fund

DealStreetAsia mentioned Rize and Helios as examples from 100×100’s earlier portfolio.

Rize is an agri-tech startup focused on reducing methane emissions from rice farming. This is important because rice cultivation is a major source of methane, a greenhouse gas that has a strong warming effect.

Helios is a residential solar company in the Philippines. Its work fits into a wider trend where households and small businesses are looking for cleaner and cheaper electricity options.

These examples show the kind of companies 100×100 may continue to build – businesses that solve specific climate problems while serving real customers.

Purpose of the VC fund

The purpose of Fund II is to build climate companies that can scale across India and Southeast Asia. This means 100×100 is likely to look for problems that are large, repeatable and commercially attractive.

For example, a solution for industrial energy efficiency can be sold to many factories. A better cooling technology can serve homes, offices and commercial buildings. A cleaner material can be used by manufacturers across different markets.

The fund’s purpose is not only financial return. Its stated model is also linked to emissions reduction. But for that impact to be real, the companies must survive, grow and reach customers beyond pilot projects.

Scope and opportunity

The scope is large because the chosen sectors touch everyday life.

Agriculture can include cleaner rice farming, better fertiliser use, water-saving tools and supply chain improvements.

Energy can include solar, storage, grid software, energy efficiency and clean power access.

Industry can include tools that help factories reduce fuel use, lower waste or meet climate reporting rules.

Materials can include lower-carbon construction products, recycled inputs or alternatives to high-emission raw materials.

Buildings can include cooling, insulation, power management and smarter energy use.

This makes Fund II more than a narrow climate fund. It is a company-building platform for multiple climate-heavy parts of the economy.

Challenges ahead

The biggest challenge is execution. Building 50 companies is not easy, especially in climate sectors where sales cycles can be long and technical risk can be high.

The second challenge is capital. Climate companies often need more follow-on funding than software startups. Hardware, pilots, factories, field teams and regulatory approvals can all require money.

The third challenge is local market understanding. India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore and the Philippines have different rules, customer needs and infrastructure realities. A model that works in one country may need changes in another.

Conclusion with key takeaways

100×100’s $100 million second fund is a strong signal for climate venture building in Asia. Its aim is ambitious – create 50 companies across India and Southeast Asia that can reduce emissions and grow into large businesses.

The fund comes at a time when investors are becoming more careful, but also more serious about climate companies with clear business models. If 100×100 can build practical startups that customers actually use, it could play a meaningful role in the region’s climate economy.

Key takeaways

100×100 has launched Fund II with a target corpus of $100 million.

The fund aims to build 50 climate-focused companies across India and Southeast Asia.

100×100 was formerly known as Wavemaker Impact.

Its first $60 million fund closed in 2023 and co-founded 27 companies across eight Asian countries.

The new fund will focus on agriculture, energy, industry, materials and buildings.

SolarSquare Energy has raised $53 million in a Series C funding round led by B Capital. Existing investors Lightspeed, Elevation Capital, Lowercarbon Capital and Rainmatter also joined the round. For India’s rooftop solar market, this is a meaningful moment. Solar panels on home rooftops are no longer a niche idea for only a few eco-conscious families. With rising power bills, government subsidies and better financing options, more Indian households are now looking at solar as a practical money-saving choice.

SolarSquare wants to sit right at the centre of this change. Its aim is simple – make rooftop solar easier, more reliable and more transparent for Indian homes, apartments and housing societies.

What SolarSquare does

SolarSquare is a rooftop solar startup that helps customers install solar power systems on their homes and buildings. The company handles parts of the journey such as site checks, system design, installation and after-sales support.

It works with individual homes, commercial users and housing societies. SolarSquare is present in 29 cities and has served more than 25,000 customers as per its official site.

For a homeowner, the process can otherwise feel confusing. People need to understand panel quality, inverter choice, subsidy rules, net metering, electricity bills and maintenance. SolarSquare is trying to turn that complicated process into a more guided service.

Founders and founding year

SolarSquare was founded in 2015. Its co-founders are Neeraj Jain, Nikhil Nahar and Shreya Mishra.

The company started at a time when rooftop solar was still not very common for Indian homes. Over the years, the market has changed. Today, the government’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, lower solar equipment costs and rising awareness have made residential solar much more attractive.

Why the $53 million funding matters

The new funding gives SolarSquare more room to expand. Rooftop solar is not a business that can grow only through an app. It needs trained installation teams, customer support, financing partners, local approvals and reliable hardware partners. The round also shows that investors are taking India’s residential solar market seriously. B Capital leading the round is important because large investors usually look for markets that can become big over many years.

SolarSquare may use the money to expand into more cities, improve its technology platform, strengthen supply chains and make the customer journey smoother. In simple terms, the company now has more fuel to reach more homes.

The bigger aim

SolarSquare’s larger aim is to make clean energy affordable and accessible. The company also says it wants to make India’s solar generation industry more organized, transparent and trust-based.

That aim matters because rooftop solar has had trust issues in the past. Some customers have faced unclear pricing, poor installation quality, delayed service or confusion around subsidies. A more organized player can help reduce these problems.

For example, a family paying Rs. 5,000 a month for electricity may consider solar if the savings are clear, the subsidy process is explained properly and the installation is handled professionally. Without that trust, even interested customers may delay the decision.

Government policy is helping the market

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has given rooftop solar a strong push. The scheme aims to support residential rooftop solar adoption and offers central financial assistance for eligible households. The policy has made solar more affordable for many families. For a 3 kW system, subsidy support can reduce the upfront burden, depending on eligibility and official rules.

This is where startups like SolarSquare benefit. When policy creates demand, customers still need someone to install and maintain the system properly. That opens space for organized rooftop solar companies.

Competitors and market landscape

SolarSquare is not alone in this market. It competes with established energy companies, solar EPC firms, local installers and other rooftop solar startups. Key competitors and alternatives include Tata Power Solar, Freyr Energy, ZunRoof, Orb Energy, Loom Solar and many city-level solar installation companies. In housing societies and commercial rooftops, customers may also compare offers from regional EPC players.

SolarSquare’s challenge is to prove that it can offer better service, clearer pricing and stronger after-sales support than local installers. Its advantage may come from brand trust, financing support, technology-led customer experience and scale across cities.

Why rooftop solar appeals to Indian households

The biggest reason is savings. Once a rooftop solar system is installed, it can reduce monthly electricity bills for years. The benefit is especially visible for homes with higher daytime power use or bigger electricity bills.

Rooftop solar also gives families a feeling of control. Instead of depending fully on grid electricity, they can generate part of their own power.

For housing societies, solar can help reduce common-area electricity costs. Lifts, water pumps, lighting and security systems often consume power every day. A rooftop solar system can reduce that shared monthly expense.

Environmental benefits

Rooftop solar also has a clean energy benefit. It generates electricity from sunlight and reduces dependence on fossil-fuel-based power. For cities, this can be useful because rooftops are already available spaces. Solar panels on homes and apartments do not need extra land like large solar parks.

If more homes adopt rooftop solar, India can lower pressure on the grid during sunny hours and move closer to its renewable energy goals. The environmental gain becomes bigger when adoption happens at scale.

Challenges SolarSquare still faces

The opportunity is large, but the work is not easy. Rooftop solar depends on local permissions, electricity distribution companies, net-metering rules and customer awareness. These can differ from state to state. Installation quality is another challenge. A solar system is a long-term product. Customers expect it to work for many years. Poor wiring, weak structures or bad service can damage trust quickly.

Financing also matters. Even with subsidies, many households need easy EMI options. If SolarSquare can make financing smoother, it can bring more middle-class families into rooftop solar.

Conclusion with key takeaways

SolarSquare Energy’s $53 million funding round is a strong signal for India’s rooftop solar market. The company is trying to make solar adoption simpler for homes, housing societies and businesses at a time when electricity costs and clean energy awareness are both rising.

Its real test will be execution. If SolarSquare can combine good installation, clear pricing, subsidy support and reliable after-sales service, it can become one of the most important consumer clean energy companies in India.

Key takeaways

India’s clean energy conversation usually focuses on solar, EVs, and green hydrogen. But one fast-growing area is getting serious investor attention now: converting used cooking oil into cleaner fuels. On 7 April 2026, clean energy startup Ecoil announced a $2.5 million funding round led by Fundalogical Ventures. Reports also said other investors joined, including impact-focused backers and existing supporters.

At first glance, this may look like a small funding headline. But if you look deeper, this round is about solving a real infrastructure gap in India: how to reliably collect, track, and route used cooking oil (UCO) into compliant biofuel channels.

What Happened in This Funding Round?

As reported on 7 April 2026, Ecoil raised around $2.5 million in fresh capital, led by Fundalogical Ventures. Market reports also mention participation from Caspian Impact Investment, Momentum Capital, and existing investor The Chennai Angels.

The company’s focus is simple but important: build a technology-led network that collects UCO from restaurants, hotels, and food businesses, then channels that material into cleaner fuel value chains like biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

In short, Ecoil is trying to organize a supply chain that has historically been fragmented and hard to scale.

Why This Matters for India Right Now

India’s energy transition is not only about creating new fuels. It is also about securing dependable feedstock (raw material) pipelines for those fuels. Used cooking oil is one such feedstock. But in practice, UCO sourcing faces three major problems:

Supply is scattered across thousands of small outlets.

Quality and traceability can vary widely.

Informal diversion reduces reliable industrial availability.

A startup that can solve these operational issues at scale can unlock value for multiple stakeholders: refineries, biofuel producers, regulators, and public health systems. That is why this funding round matters. Investors are effectively backing execution in logistics, traceability, and compliance, not just a climate narrative.

Where Ecoil Could Use the New Capital

Based on reported statements, Ecoil plans to use fresh funds to expand operations, strengthen technology, and enter more markets. For a startup in this segment, that usually means:

expanding supplier onboarding across new cities,

improving collection and route optimization,

building stronger quality tracking and audit systems,

integrating enterprise buyers and processors more deeply,

improving visibility dashboards for compliance and reporting.

In practical terms, scale in this business comes from network density and operational reliability, not just branding.

Conclusion

Ecoil’s funding is a signal that supply-chain infrastructure in clean energy is becoming investable, urgent, and strategically important in India. The company now has fresh capital to scale collection, strengthen technology, and build wider market presence. The opportunity is large, but execution will be the deciding factor.

If Ecoil can scale with discipline, this round could become a meaningful case study in how climate startups create impact by fixing foundational bottlenecks, not by chasing headlines.
