For example, a senior citizen may use a mobile connection only for family calls and emergency contact. A secondary SIM may be used mainly for bank OTPs, Aadhaar-related messages and occasional calls. Paying for daily data in such cases can feel unnecessary.

The new rules allow customers to select a plan based on their real usage. A voice-focused user can choose calling and SMS benefits, while a heavy internet user can continue using a data or bundled plan.
