OnePlus has launched the OnePlus 16 in China, giving its flagship phone a major hardware upgrade. The smartphone focuses on gaming, camera performance and battery life, with a 185Hz display, a 200MP primary camera and a large 9,000mAh battery.

The phone debuted in China on October 12, 2026. OnePlus has not officially confirmed an India launch yet, but reports suggest that the device could arrive in the country in December 2026 or January 2027.

OnePlus 16 specifications

The OnePlus 16 features a 6.78-inch flat LTPO OLED display with a 1.5K resolution. It supports refresh rates of up to 185Hz in compatible games, while everyday usage may operate at a lower rate to save battery.

A higher refresh rate can make scrolling and gaming feel smoother. This should appeal to users who play fast-paced games where quick touch response and fluid motion matter.

The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. It comes with LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. The Chinese model is available in configurations offering up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.

Camera features

The OnePlus 16 carries a triple rear camera setup. It includes a 200MP primary sensor, a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and a 50MP ultra-wide camera.

The phone can record video in up to 8K resolution at 30 frames per second. It also supports 4K recording at up to 120 frames per second, including Dolby Vision support.

On the front, there is a 50MP selfie camera with autofocus. While the high megapixel count looks impressive, real-world image quality will depend on image processing, low-light performance and camera tuning.

Battery and design

The 9,000mAh battery is one of the biggest highlights of the OnePlus 16. It supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

This battery could be useful for gamers, travellers and users who regularly stream videos or use navigation. The phone is around 8.5mm thick and weighs approximately 220 grams. It also comes with IP68 and IP69 protection against dust and water.

Other features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and ColorOS 17 based on Android 17.

Price and India availability

The OnePlus 16 starts at CNY 5,999 in China, which converts to roughly Rs. 86,000 before taxes and other costs. The top-end 16GB RAM and 1TB storage version costs CNY 8,499, or around Rs. 1.22 lakh.

The Indian price is expected to be higher if the phone launches here. Reports suggest a price above Rs. 1 lakh, placing it against premium models such as the iQOO 16, Xiaomi 18 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and iPhone 18 Pro.

Why the OnePlus 16 matters

The phone shows OnePlus moving further into the premium flagship segment. Its large battery and fast display give it a gaming-focused identity, while the 200MP camera brings stronger competition to camera-centric smartphones.

The main uncertainty is India availability. OnePlus has not confirmed the launch, and there is also speculation that India could receive the OnePlus 16R instead of the standard model.

Conclusion with key takeaways

The OnePlus 16 brings a powerful processor, 185Hz gaming display, 200MP camera, 9,000mAh battery and fast charging. It has launched in China, but its India arrival remains unconfirmed.

If launched in India at over Rs. 1 lakh, the phone will target buyers who want flagship performance, long battery life and strong gaming features. The final verdict will depend on its Indian price, software version and official availability.

Redmi has launched the Redmi Note 17 5G in India, and the phone is clearly made for people who want one thing above everything else which is long battery life.

The company is calling it the “mAhster Edition”, which is a playful way of saying that this phone is built around its huge 8,000mAh battery. In a market where many phones still offer 5,000mAh or 6,000mAh batteries, Redmi is trying to stand out with a device that can handle long days, travel, classes, work calls and entertainment without constant charging.

The Redmi Note 17 5G starts at Rs. 24,999 as an introductory price after bank offers. It will go on sale from 13 August 2026 at 12 PM through mi.com, Amazon Specials and Xiaomi Retail stores.

Redmi Note 17 5G price in India

The Redmi Note 17 5G comes in two variants.

• The 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant has an MRP of Rs. 27,999, but the introductory price is Rs. 24,999.
• The 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant has an MRP of Rs. 30,999, while the introductory price is Rs. 27,999.

The introductory pricing includes an instant bank discount of Rs. 3,000 on eligible SBI Card, Axis Bank and Kotak Bank credit cards and EMI transactions.

The phone is available in three colours which are Dark Night, Arctic Blue and Starlight Purple.

Display and design

The Redmi Note 17 5G gets a 6.99-inch FHD+ OLED display with 2396 x 1080 pixel resolution. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate, which means scrolling, animations and supported games should feel smoother.

The display also has a 240Hz touch sampling rate and up to 1800 nits peak brightness. For normal users, this means the phone should feel responsive while gaming or typing, and the screen should remain visible in bright outdoor conditions.

Redmi has also added Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection. The phone has an IP65 rating for dust and splash resistance, along with a reinforced chassis. It also supports HydroTouch 2.0, which should help improve touch response when the screen is slightly wet.

This is useful for Indian conditions, especially during monsoon, travel or outdoor use.

Performance and processor

The Redmi Note 17 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset. It is a 4nm processor with an octa-core CPU and Adreno 613 GPU.

This is not a flagship gaming chip, but it should be good enough for everyday use. Tasks like WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, UPI payments, browsing, maps, online classes and light gaming should run comfortably.

The phone comes with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. It also supports microSD expansion, which is helpful for users who store a lot of photos, videos, music or study material.

Battery and charging

The battery is the biggest reason to consider this phone.

The Redmi Note 17 5G packs an 8,000mAh battery. This is much larger than the batteries found in most phones in this price range.

For students, travellers, field workers and heavy content watchers, this can make a real difference. A bigger battery means fewer charging breaks and less worry when you are outside for long hours.

The phone supports 45W fast charging. It also supports 22.5W reverse wired charging, which means it can be used to charge another device through a cable. This can be useful in emergencies if your earbuds, another phone or a small gadget runs out of battery.

Camera setup

The Redmi Note 17 5G has a 50MP main rear camera with f/1.8 aperture and LED flash. It can record videos up to 1080p.

On the front, the phone gets an 8MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.

This camera setup is simple. Redmi has not added multiple low-use sensors just for numbers. The main 50MP camera will likely handle most regular photography, including daylight shots, documents, social media photos and casual videos.

Low-light performance will depend on image processing, so buyers should not expect flagship-level camera results. But for daily use, the setup looks practical.

Software and updates

The Redmi Note 17 5G runs Android 16 with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3.

The phone is reported to come with four years of OS updates. That is important because buyers are now keeping phones for longer. A long update promise helps the phone stay fresh, secure and useful over time.

Software experience will also depend on how Xiaomi manages pre-installed apps, notifications and updates after launch.

Connectivity and other features

The Redmi Note 17 5G supports 5G, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, GLONASS and USB Type-C.

It also includes an in-display fingerprint sensor and infrared sensor. The IR blaster is a small but useful Redmi feature because it lets users control appliances like TVs and ACs from the phone.

The phone measures 169.7 x 79.14 x 8.45mm and weighs around 225 grams. Because of the huge battery, it is not a very light phone, but Redmi has kept the design reasonably slim for the battery size.

Who should buy Redmi Note 17 5G

The Redmi Note 17 5G is best for users who care most about battery life.

It suits students who attend online classes, watch lectures and use social apps all day. It also suits people who travel often, delivery workers, field executives, content watchers and users who do not like charging their phone every night.

It is also a good option for buyers who want a large AMOLED display for movies, sports, YouTube and casual gaming.

Competitors

The Redmi Note 17 5G competes with phones like Poco M8 Power, Samsung Galaxy F70 Pro 5G, Motorola Edge series models, Realme number series phones and iQOO mid-range devices.

Poco M8 Power also focuses strongly on battery life and display. Samsung may appeal to users who want longer brand trust and cleaner update promises. iQOO and Realme may attract buyers who want stronger gaming performance.

Redmi’s main advantage here is the combination of 8,000mAh battery, AMOLED display, 5G support, 45W charging and aggressive introductory pricing.

Conclusion with key takeaways

The Redmi Note 17 5G is not trying to be the most powerful phone in its segment. Its goal is much clearer. It wants to be a long-lasting daily phone for users who need a big battery, smooth display and reliable everyday performance.

At Rs. 24,999 introductory price, the phone will appeal most to buyers who value battery backup over flashy camera extras or gaming-focused hardware.
