Sunfox Technologies has raised $7 million, around Rs. 67 crore, in a Series A funding round led by Ashish Kacholia, Lashit Sanghvi, Alchemy Capital and 3one4 Capital.

The Dehradun-based medtech startup plans to use the money to expand its portable cardiac diagnostics platform, Spandan. Its larger aim is simple but important – bring heart testing closer to patients, especially in places where specialist healthcare is difficult to access.

What Sunfox Technologies does

Sunfox began as a research and development venture in Uttarakhand in 2016. It was founded by Rajat Jain, Arpit Jain, Sabit Rawat, Nitin Chandola and Saurabh Badola.

The founders started exploring healthcare technology after losing a friend during their college years. Their work eventually led to Spandan, a portable ECG platform that can connect with a smartphone.

An ECG records the electrical activity of the heart. Doctors use it to study heart rhythm and identify warning signs that may require urgent medical attention.

Spandan is designed for homes, clinics, hospitals, telemedicine networks and public-health centres. A healthcare worker can record a patient’s ECG and share it with a doctor or cardiologist for remote review.

This can be especially useful in rural locations. A patient may not need to travel immediately to a large city for an initial heart assessment. A local health worker can capture the ECG and seek expert guidance from a district hospital or remote-care network.

The purpose of the $7 million funding

The new capital will support Sunfox’s next stage of growth. The company plans to expand its presence across India, hire more employees, strengthen research and development and build international sales and distribution capabilities.

Sunfox is also working toward regulatory clearances in the United States and Europe. Its products already have approvals in India, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa, according to the company’s press release received.

The startup says around 60,000 Spandan devices have been deployed across India and have reached more than 20,000 villages. The platform has been used in clinics, homes and public-health programmes.

Sunfox will also invest in clinical evidence, engineering and new cardiac technologies. These steps are important as the company enters global markets with strict medical-device requirements.

Why Spandan is different

Traditional ECG machines are usually found in hospitals and larger clinics. They can be expensive, bulky and difficult to move. Spandan focuses on portability and smartphone connectivity.

The company’s official product information describes Spandan as a compact ECG system capable of producing digital reports that can be shared with doctors.

Its model combines medical hardware, software and remote doctor support. That combination can help connect frontline health workers with specialists without requiring every patient to visit a major hospital.

However, a portable ECG does not replace emergency care or a qualified doctor. Anyone experiencing severe chest pain, breathing difficulty or other serious symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.

Competition and future plans

Sunfox competes with established ECG manufacturers, telemedicine platforms and remote cardiac-monitoring companies. Its difference lies in combining portable ECG hardware with smartphone-based reporting and remote interpretation.

The company also became widely known after receiving investment from all five investors on the first season of “Shark Tank India”. The latest Series A round could help Sunfox grow from an Indian medtech startup into a global cardiac-care technology company.

Conclusion with key takeaways

Sunfox Technologies has raised $7 million to scale its Spandan portable ECG platform.

The funds will support Indian expansion, international market entry, hiring, research and regulatory approvals.

Spandan aims to make cardiac testing more portable and accessible for homes, clinics and rural healthcare centres.

The company’s biggest opportunity is to reduce delays in initial heart assessment while building a trusted India-made healthcare technology brand.
