CtrlS Plans Rs. 10,000 Crore AI Factory in Bihar – What the 150 MW Bodh Gaya Project Could Mean

CtrlS Datacenters has proposed a major investment in Bihar’s technology infrastructure. The company has signed a Letter of Intent with the Bihar government to invest Rs. 10,000 crore in a 150 MW hyperscale AI facility at Bodh Gaya.
This is a proposal, not a completed facility. Still, its scale makes it an important development for Bihar, which is looking to attract more technology, cloud-computing and AI-related investment.
What is CtrlS planning in Bodh Gaya
CtrlS plans to build a hyperscale AI factory, a term used for a large data centre designed to handle heavy AI and cloud workloads. These facilities contain servers, storage systems, networking equipment, cooling systems and high-capacity power infrastructure.
As per datacenterdynamics, the planned 150 MW capacity indicates that this would be a large facility. For comparison, a typical company server room may use a small fraction of one megawatt, while AI models, cloud platforms and large online services need far more computing power.
The project is expected to support enterprises, government departments, cloud companies and technology firms that need secure data storage and high-performance computing.
CtrlS was founded in 2007 by Sridhar Pinnapureddy, who is the company’s founder and CEO.
It currently operates data centres across major Indian markets and has announced broader expansion plans for edge data centres in smaller cities.
Where the investment could go
A project of this size involves much more than installing servers. Funds may be used for land, buildings, electrical systems, backup power, cooling equipment, fibre connectivity, cybersecurity and skilled technical operations.
AI infrastructure also needs specialized hardware. Powerful computing chips generate significant heat and require carefully designed cooling systems. Reliable electricity is equally important because even short disruptions can affect cloud services and customer operations.
CtrlS has not disclosed a construction timeline or a detailed spending breakup for the Bodh Gaya facility. The Letter of Intent is an early-stage agreement, so project details may change as planning progresses.
Patna data centre gives Bihar an early base
Alongside the Bodh Gaya announcement, CtrlS inaugurated a Rs. 400 crore data centre in Patna’s Patliputra Industrial Area. The facility has an initial IT load capacity of 12 MW and can expand as demand grows.
This operational centre can serve as an early digital base for Bihar and eastern India. It is designed to support AI and cloud workloads for companies, government institutions and technology businesses.
For example, a local startup building an AI-based education tool, a hospital group storing digital records, or a government department running online citizen services could benefit from having more nearby data infrastructure.
Potential benefits and challenges
The project could create demand for engineers, facility operators, network specialists, security staff and local suppliers. It may also help attract software companies and cloud-service partners that prefer to operate close to reliable computing infrastructure.
Bihar will still need dependable power supply, strong fibre networks and trained talent to make the opportunity work at scale. Established data-centre hubs such as Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad already have a head start, so Bihar’s success will depend on execution, costs and policy support.
Conclusion and key takeaways
CtrlS’s proposed Rs. 10,000 crore investment could place Bodh Gaya on India’s expanding AI infrastructure map. The 150 MW project is ambitious, while the Patna data centre provides an immediate starting point. If developed as planned, it could support jobs, digital services and new technology investment across Bihar and eastern India.
