BSNL Freedom 2.0 - Rs. 1 SIM, 24 Days Benefits and Why This Offer Is Getting Attention
BSNL Freedom 2.0 – Rs. 1 SIM, 24 Days Benefits and Why This Offer Is Getting Attention

BSNL has announced its Freedom 2.0 offer to mark India’s 80th Independence Day, and the headline is hard to ignore. New users can get a BSNL SIM for just Rs. 1 with calling, data and SMS benefits for 24 days.

For many mobile users, this feels like a small but useful offer. It gives people a low-cost way to try BSNL before deciding whether to keep it as their main number or use it as a backup SIM.

The offer also comes at an important time for BSNL. The state-owned telecom company is trying to bring more users to its network while expanding 4G services and improving its presence in rural and semi-urban markets.

What BSNL Freedom 2.0 offers

Under the BSNL Freedom 2.0 offer, new users can get a SIM card for Rs. 1. The offer includes unlimited calls to any network in India, 1GB data per day and 100 SMS per day.

The benefits are valid for 24 days.

The offer is available from August 12 to September 12, 2026. It is mainly meant for new mobile connections, so existing BSNL customers cannot use this Rs. 1 offer as a recharge on their current number.

Customers can get the new connection from BSNL Customer Service Centres or authorized retailers. As usual, KYC will be needed before the SIM is activated.

Why the Rs. 1 SIM offer matters

The Rs. 1 pricing is not just about cheap mobile service. It is a customer trial strategy.

Many people are curious about BSNL, especially after the company’s push around 4G and rural connectivity. But users may not want to port their main number immediately. A low-cost SIM gives them a simple way to test the network first.

For example, someone living in a small town may buy the SIM to check call quality at home and office. A student may use it as a second number for forms, apps and online classes. A shop owner may use it for customer calls without spending much in the beginning.

If the experience is good, users may continue with BSNL after the 24-day benefit period ends.

The bigger BSNL plan behind Freedom 2.0

BSNL has been using limited-period offers to attract new customers. According to the report, Freedom 2.0 is similar to earlier BSNL offers introduced in October 2025 and April 2026.

The main aim is simple – bring more people into the BSNL network and let them experience the service at a low entry cost.

This also fits BSNL’s larger 4G rollout story. In Dakshina Kannada Telecom District, BSNL reportedly has more than 4.75 lakh mobile customers, around 700 working mobile towers and daily mobile data usage of about 42TB. The report also says BSNL has installed 89 new 4G base transceiver stations in remote villages where private operators do not have coverage.

That rural angle matters. BSNL still has an important role in areas where private telecom companies may not have strong reach.

BSNL’s long-validity plan and broadband offers

Along with the Rs. 1 SIM offer, BSNL has also announced a Rs. 2,399 mobile plan. This plan comes with 412 days of validity, unlimited calls, 2GB data per day and 100 SMS per day.

This is aimed at users who do not want to recharge every month. A long-validity plan can be useful for senior citizens, second-number users, small business owners and people who prefer one annual recharge.

BSNL has also announced an offer for new fibre broadband users. The first month is free. After that, users pay Rs. 399 per month for the next three months after a Rs. 100 discount. From the fifth month, the regular Rs. 499 monthly plan applies.

The company is also replacing old copper wire connections with fibre optic cables. This can improve broadband speed and reliability where the fibre upgrade is completed.

How it compares with Jio, Airtel and Vi

BSNL competes with Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea in the prepaid mobile market.

Jio and Airtel are stronger in 4G coverage and speed in many cities. Vi also has prepaid and unlimited calling plans for budget users. But BSNL’s Rs. 1 SIM offer is different because it is not a normal monthly recharge plan. It is more like a welcome offer for new users.

The real comparison will start after the first 24 days. If a user likes BSNL’s network, they will compare regular BSNL recharge plans with Jio, Airtel and Vi plans.

So, the offer can bring users in. But network quality, data speed and customer service will decide whether they stay.

What users should check before taking the offer

The offer looks attractive, but users should check a few things before buying the SIM.

  1. First, confirm that Freedom 2.0 is available in your area. Offers can sometimes vary by circle or retailer.
  2. Second, ask clearly whether the Rs. 1 price includes the SIM and first benefits, or whether any extra charges apply at the store.
  3. Third, check BSNL network coverage in your home, office, college or regular travel route. A cheap SIM is useful only if the signal is reliable.
  4. Fourth, ask what recharge will be needed after 24 days. This will help you avoid confusion once the free benefit period ends.

Conclusion with key takeaways

BSNL Freedom 2.0 is a smart low-cost offer for new users. At Rs. 1, it gives people a chance to try BSNL with unlimited calls, 1GB daily data and 100 SMS per day for 24 days.

The offer also shows how BSNL is trying to bring back customer interest while pushing its 4G and fibre services. For users, the best approach is simple – take the offer if it is available, test the network properly and then decide whether BSNL is worth continuing.
